Shot some video recently on DVX100AE and any subject which moved in shot left a trail behind it(the faster the movement the more defined the trail or smear). When reviewing footage on PC THE problem was quite dramatic but when viewed on a television it was less dramatic.Friend suggested I may have been shooting "progressive" instead of "interlaced".Has anyone encountered the same.

Were you in "slow shutter" mode? The slower the shutter speed, the more blur/smear you'll get.

Thanks for the reply Barry.Unfortunately I dont know if I was in slow shutter mode but after reading the reems of material on "shutter speeds" posted it certainly does appear to be the frontrunning dumbass candidate. We learn from our mistakes(but its better to learn from other peoples).

I don't think "interlace" has anything to do with the problem. Barry Green could say for sure if it does. Couldn't you Barry?

Couldn't answer anything for sure without seeing the footage. However, interlace alone doesn't cause smearing. A slow shutter speed would, whether you were in progressive or interlaced mode.

you need to compress the video and post it on a server somewhere and link it here.

Thanks for the help on this one.I have managed to get this vt onto a server. Its only about 3 seconds long .If someone could have a look at it and see what they think I'd appreciate it.The entire piece is a lot longer but you'll get the idea as the guy walks through the shot. Thanks lads.
