Motion tracking/masking

So i have some green screen footage where i placed a pink X on the green screen to motion track the movement for background.

Now I'm masking all the pink x's out, but the one I motion tracked can't be masked out. It makes sense to me, but I need to get rid of it, any help?

Should I put a duplicated instance of that video file over the motion tracked one, and mask out the X that way?

Duplicate the layer with the X's, mask the X's on one layer, don't mask them on the other. Hide the masked X layer while you're working, hide the unmasked X layer when you render.

Or is there something I'm missing about your footage?

Once you have motion tracked the clip all the keyframes are set so you can go back and take out your pink X's with out any problems.

Well, i'm trying mask out the X that i did motion track, and it's not working for some reason. i have no idea why.
