View Full Version : The DVX as a still camera?

If I wanted to take some still images of some stuff, my dogs, or my house or my car or something, could I use the DVX to get a half decent shot?

I don't have a still camera whatsoever and would like a bit more quality than say a webcam.

What settings would I use, or could I go straight firewire to the computer and snapshot?

What settings would I want to use if I did this? 30P? 60i?

Any help would be great!

Did you mean the DVX or the HVX? You maybe in the wrong part of the site if you meant the first.

If you did mean HVX, shoot it 24pn and then just export any frame you want using an NLE or QT or whatever. Voila, still image. It might also have a specific still frame/image type of function, but I didn't see any reference to such in the manual's TOC.

It'll give you some pretty good results. Definitely go with one of the progressive settings. I'd just shoot some video and pull the best grab from the footage in your NLE. I just did it last night, and I was happy with the results. I don't own a digital still camera, so I use my DVX.

Ah Crap, I meant this for the dvx forum. Wonder how I can get it moved....
