Hey so I've been racking my brain the last few days trying to think of a birthday present for the GF. But I'm really terrible at gift giving and so far I've got nothing.
I'm looking for some suggestions from the men and women of this board.
Things to know:
1) She's a budding actress (Film and Theatre) so maybe something that can help her craft?
2) This is a new relationship so I guess that should factor into consideration somehow.
3) She's one of those girls who kinda has almost everything. Which makes gift giving even more difficult.
Anyway I appreciate any suggestions, comments, or jokes you all can provide.
Later Homies.

Thanks for the input Rice.
Flowers will def be part of the whole equation but I'm still looking for like that "Wow. How thoughtful." Kind of gift.

Flowers (of course). Hand picked from the Flower Stand (Not some bullshit pre - arrangement)
A nice bracelet perhaps ? And then dinner.

make her a vid about how you feel and have her watch it on her own after a romantic date. then post it so we can see

I like doing the multiple gifts. Flowers definitely, maybe some earrings, good dinner, maybe take her to a good show? Must be some good theatre out right now in New York.

Of all the gifts I've ever given my girlfriend, the one she loved the most and always talks about was basically free. I made a mix cd of mostly quirky (and yes, kind of sweet) songs and designed a custom layout for jewel case and cd art that was also quirky (and, yes, kind of sweet.) It looked like a professionally designed cd. Also, I didn't put cheesy love songs by michael bolton or luther vandros, more like quirky old appalachaan folk songs, punk/indie rock "love" songs full of irony, etc.
Anyhow, she loved it. We've been together for almost five years and there have been some expensive gifts given in that time, but this is hands down her favorite. So, point being, if you can actually make or create something that takes a little effort - that often goes much further than the high dollar items.
The play sounds like a great idea, though; I'm just thinking supplemental gifts.

I'd go with the Plasma TV. Oxygen TV did a poll and 3 of 4 women now prefer the Plasma TV to a diamond.
Go figure, but...
YEAH!!!!
CaptM
PS -- DON'T do that...
Dinner and a show in Central Park would be my pick... and then come home to the Plasma!!!!!

I've been with my girlfriend for six years... and the best gifts I give her are surprises.
Like the one time I layed beneath her RSX with fake blood pooled around my body, convulsing and twitching.
When she flipped me over, I had a cheap Rich's cubic zirconia ring between my teeth.
It was funny, she cried, then laughed, and cried again.
She'll never forget it.

I have to say that is the funnest thing I've herd all day. And mad props for pulling it off. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)
I would go with picking her up with flowers then at dinner you give her a gift. I'm not sure what you should get her. You say it is a new realtionship, so i wouldn't go with to fancey jewlery that might scare her. So pick something fun and light harted. And then take her to the show. I think this will work out the best for you.
And then when you come home and watch a DVD on the new Plasma. And she asked where did you get that just say "Oh I forgot happy birthday" She'll love it. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Seriously, though--
Isaac Brody's suggestion of multiple gift attacks is the best.
Not because it's easy on the wallet, but because a lot of guys will never think to actually spread gifts out instead of beating a gal over the head with one.
I mean, it's not all about the gift. It's about presentation. Kinda like a movie, yeah?

Yea that's precisely what I'm thinking.
The "gift assault" is def the way to go. I think i can come up with some small meaningful things to wow her with.
And then take her home to my 50" Panny Plasma TV. Because size does matter.
Thanks for all the input fellas.

My girlfriend likes a cute stuffed animal way more than flowers. Just think of the psychology of it. In six months, she can either look at the cute, fuzzy animal and think of me... or she can look at the dead flowers and do the same. I'll go with the cuteness.:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Unfortunately she doesn't do the stuffed animal thing.
Which is cool with me actually because my last Gf did have alot of dolls and it irritated the heck out of me having to take them off the bed all the time and then when its "business time" i got some doll she's had since birth sitting in a chair across the room watching us. It was very unsettling for the first few months.
But the idea of getting the new beautiful baby something she will have down the road to remind her of me is a definite factor.

Man, I would totally love to rig an animatronic stuffed Horse for my girlfriend.
Like, let her sit it in her room and when she goes to sleep, activate the red glowing eyes and galloping feet.
That would be so freaking cool to video tape at 3 a.m.

The best possible birthday present:
For $500 I can get John Hudson to call her and not only wish her happy birthday but also tell her why PCs are better than Macs... For $1000 he'll even leave out the sarcasm :)
