I was wondering how I could get smooth slow motion from faster frame rates with the HVX 1080 settings like 48 or 60i? Is there any way to convert these interlaced frames where they will look smooth?

If you have Compressor 2 (bundled with Final Cut Pro), you can do it in there. Apple was sneaky and the put the same "Optical Flow" retiming technology from Shake into Compressor 2, it's just not called that. Basically you just bring your 1080/60i clip into compressor and export it with the same codec, just change the frame rate to 59.98 (60P) and enable the best quality settings in the frame tab. Then bring it into Cinema Tools and conform it back to 29.97. Here is a thread that explains how to do it:

If you don't have Compressor 2 there are third party pieces of software like Twixtor that can do a fairly decent job of getting 60P like footage out of 60i. Hope that helps.
