Downloaded the frame rate convertor installer from:
http://www.panasonic.com/business/provideo/support/fcphd.asp
I installed it, everything went fine. Shows up in FCP Tools menu fine.
So then I digitized some 4 frames footage we shot using the DVCPro HD 720p 48 Hz option. I turned on the remove advanced pull down from firewire sources. It digitized fine, plalys back in the viewer okay.
I then go to use the Frame Rate Convertor and FCP crashes. I've tried rebooting the program, the computer, trashing preferences, all the like. Still FCP crashes. Anyone use the frame rate convertor and perhaps have any insight into where my problem lies?
cheers.

Okay I found the solution after making my post (gotta love that...).
Basically the deal is FCP won't play nice with the converter if you try and use it in the same project file that you initially digitized the clips into. What you need to do then is open a new project file, import your 720p60 clips into there, then apply the frame rate converter. Annoying work around, but it seems to work.

I've had no problem using the FRC within the same project. Just highlight the clip, apply the FRC, set parameters and have it create/import new file into FCP. Which version of FCP are you using? Which OS and which QT? I'm at FCP 5.1.1; 10.4.7 and QT 7.1.2 on a dual G5 and a Powerbook G4. No problems with either system.

One more thing... I'm using the version of the FRC found on the FCP 5.1 distribution disk. Don't know whether it is different from the version on the Panny site; there are two different creation dates and the Apple version is later.

I'll have to try installing the FRC from the FCP disk. I just used the one from the web site, as mentioned in my earlier post. I have the latest FCP, OSX, and QT. So seems the only difference is possibly using the different FRC installer. Because I did the exact steps you described and that crashed FCP every time, until I import the clips into a seperate project.
cheers.

Try removing the FRC you downloaded and drag the new FRC into your plug-ins folder. You might also want to trash your FCP prefs.

what good is the FRC anyway? Can't you just shoot your initial footage in 720/24PN and import your footage in 2:3:3:2 pulldown mode? Then make sure you edit in a complimentary timeline?
FRC is for over and under cranked footage. The Advanced Pulldown in the P2 import window is for 24fps conformity. They do two different jobs, never use them together on the same clip.
