My friend and I just shot a wedding video, he had a sony so he bought Sony Tapes. I recorded on his sony tapes with my 100a. I thought everything would be fine but when I went to log them onto FCP I kept getting error Messages on FCP saying "There is an error reading the tape" and it wouldn't let me log anything.
Then I put in the next Sony tape. This time I rewinded it, then pressed play, then the "Auto Off Cylinder Lock" message came up on my Camera. The weird thing is that I stuck in a Panasonic tape I had and it played just fine.
I checked out the message boards to see what to do. Someone said something about how the Cylinder Error Message could be because of a bad tape. Is this true? Do I just need to not use Sony tapes anymore? Do I just need to have the thing cleaned (which I have'nt done yet)? Then I read that the message means the drum isn't spinning and it costs $700.00 and $100 just to look at it. If my Panasonic tape plays does that mean that my drum is not broken?
I'm desperate for help, and being a poor student (who by the way did the wedding video to make a little money for top ramen) I'm strapped for cash. But I will do what is needed.
