My friend and I had a long talk about if different types of panasonic dv tapes make any different in image qualities. I have Panasonic professional dv tape (AY-DVM80XJ) and he has ?DVM60EJ. I am really curious to know that if I am just wasting money on buying expensive tapes or I am benefiting something from buy expensive tapes.
I thought my images came out really nice by using professional tapes... But, it might be just a phychological effect...
If anyone can help me out, that will be great!

Image quality isn't the issue. It's all digital. As long as you get all of the data, you get the same no matter what tape it's on.
The problem is that cheaper tape can stretch more and cause dropouts at capture. It can flake and jam up your mechanism.
And changing tape stock can gum up your heads.
Find a tape that works for you and stick to it.

The highest Panny tape they stock at EVS is the MQ and I asked them about the higher quality AMQ (Advanced Master Quality). I've asked 4 different salesguys on different occasions about the tapes and they dont seem to think the AMQ is much, if any, better than the MQ (Master Quality). They all agree on the MQ over the PQ (Professional Quality).
As for your 80 minute tapes, I've never seen them before I just now searched for them. As they appear to be the lowest of the "professional" grades (PQ) I personally would pass on them for the MQ.
All that aside, David's advice is sound.
