Software is not cool... software is a tool. What you do with it is cool. Every now and then the are different "design trends" going on. That's what you need, keep up with the latest fashion in productionland.

Programs are tools. They are like the sword to a swordsman. You must weild them to perfect your art. You should learn how to do whatever it is you want to do with these programs to a higher degree (i.e. for Premiere you should work on editing until you can make outrageously good edits, for AE you should be able to seamlessly integrate youe AE projects into a film and have it make sense.) Work on the house, not on how to use the hammer.
Or you could pick up Shake.:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Hey Ogrus -- I've been playing around with Corel Painter - one of the cool tools is to transform a photo into a painting. You can create water colors, oils, chalk, etc and have a lot of ways to customize the brushes and paper. I use it when I do photo montages and I can crossfade from the photo to the painted version. I am using it to take snapshots in a wedding video and transitioning from a live shot to a "artistic" version of the shot. I plan to use it for the cover for the dvd as well.
Here is an example -- it is pretty crappy, but you can get the idea.
