Hey, we're going to be in Copenhagen in September working on a documentary and are hoping to obtain footage of a specific event. Anything that was shot will likely have been shot in PAL. Getting copies of the tapes will probably have to happen more or less on the fly (we're dealing with young anarchists here).

Is it possible to simply connect a PAL camera to an NTSC camera and copy? Or would the PAL footage need to be converted to NTSC using an NLE such as FCP and then output to tape?

How much footage are you talking about here?
If you KNOW the amount of footage, and it's not too much, I'd suggest to bring along a DSR-11 or an Nnovia hard drive recorder or similar, then convert through software once back in USA.

Thanks. Good suggestions, though I don't have either of those pieces of equipment. But, as it turns out, we have an offer of use of FCP at a community television outfit, so it will be pretty easy for us to capture PAL into FCP, convert to NTSC and then output to tape.

Hello Vidled! IŽm very interested to know what software suits for the PAL to NTSC conversion. I have a clear idea what to do do with 25p to 24p but I doŽnt know what to do with 50i footage.
