I just finished compressing some footage shot in 24P normal using QT Pro and in the settings I selected Sorenson Video 3. I did another compression using H.264 as well. The colors in the finished compression don't seem to pop like I would want them to. It actually looks kinda dull to say the least! Is there anything I need to do in the pre compression stages to enhance or keep the colors looking good?

I guess no one uses QT PRO on here to compress their footage? I am just wondering if I need to select one of those options under the filter button to enhance colors or something. After compression the colors looked dull to me.

I haven’t got a response from my question but I've gathered enough info to help you out with yours. From what I’ve been reading that it’s been a known issue with QT and the H.264 encoding on windows. Apparently it looks fine on Macs and will hopefully be fixed in later versions of QT pro.

I wouldn't use QT Pro to encode files that will look good for distrobution.
If you are distrobuting to web: try Flash 8 Video. There is a free Video encoder for windows http://www.rivavx.com/index.php?encoder&L=3
If you want more of a file download, Windows Media (while the color gamut may not look correct) will give you colors that pop more. Its a free download for all valid copy of Windows. If you want to encode on the mac, you'll need to buy Flip4Mac. I do not know how good the Mac encoder is for WMV9
And, if you want the most versitility for the future, there is Mpeg-4 AVC in an mp4 container. You could use StaxRip (http://www.planetdvb.net/staxrip/) to achieve this result for free on a windows machine, however I do not know any mac alternatives for these software packages.
(ProTip: You can use Staxrip to make mp4 files that are quicktime compatible in conjunction with nero digital being installed, search my posts for some of my tutorials I have written on the board)

i use Quicktime pro just check my clips. click my name and then find posts/threads started by me. most of my stuff is in h.264 and i've received comments here about the coloring...which is straight from my NLE. i did nothing in quicktime. however you can adjust the HSL if you want or need to.

It may be the fact that you're using Sharkle...
novelt, when you say you've received comments, do you mean you've received positive or negative color comments?
