Looking forward to it Dan. Did you do a sci or hero fest?

GenJerDan
07-27-2006, 06:31 PM
SciFest. There's a "director's cut" on my Movies site, if you missed the premiere. :)

But this time I'll actually have actors instead of me, the wife, and the cat.

Well...I should say I'll be auditioning actors (to replace that Someone and Somebody on the poster).

If I don't find any...no film. Hmmm...maybe I should get some before I start building the sets. Might be a lot of work for nothing. D'oh! Wish I was back in the States already. A much larger pool to draw from.

I know how you feel, I'm having a hard time getting people together for this one. But dammit I may do this myself even if i have to wear a wig!

GenJerDan

:)

The BTS stuff probably will have that. Well...me, not you. Gonna "try out" all the lighting and staging and such, so...me, my wife, and a big Winnie-The-Pooh as stand-ins.

Lol.. Judging from your avatar with a little makeup and noone will ever know:)

Update:

While I'm upstairs, sweating and laying down dolly track, building a bedroom, downstairs...

...the phone isn't ringing, the email isn't arriving, and I DON'T HAVE ANY ACTORS.

There are two local thater groups here. Both of which have ignored me. It wasn't like I was asking for much...just the opportunity to get the message out to the actors that I was casting a film. Sheesh.

If it's not cast and shot by the end of August...no entry. Imagine how pissed I'll be.

Oh, they're not foreigners. Don't want foreigners. Don't want audiences sitting there wondering vhy d'actors haf cherman accents.

(Nah...mostly because I need a litle kid and the chances of finding a local child actor with english is nigh on nil.)

Can't get much worse, right? :)

Well...it could, I suppose. Some actors...

But that was long ago, makes no nevermind, water under the bridge, and they never found a body, anyway.

Good luck with this, Dan. I can't wait to see it. This festival is going to be fun.

GenJerDan

Hope so.

But I'll make this thing even if I have to wait until I move back to the 'States to do it. That'll show 'em. :)

Ooooooo. Actually have actors starting to come out of the woodwork.

So far, two women.

No kids, though. Think anyone would notice if I use a large stuffed Winnie-the-Pooh for that character?

And, hopefully, one of the women isn't in Louisiana like her email sig implies.

Oh. And even have a guy who's interested in being the boom op.

Hopefully she's a relocated evacuee like me who still has NOLA flava.

Well, Fort Polk flava, anyway. :)

Ah, then perhaps a relocated Army brat?

you'll have to let us know how it works out.

Updated status:

Got a boom op + BTS shooter. (And he's a member here, oddly enough.)

Louisiana actress is here, it turns out. But most likely not for this film because of age.

Another actress will most likely play the part. She took unfair advantage: the film calls for a Mother and Son, and she just happens to have one of those available. :)

If all goes well, the shoot will be weekend after next. I'm kinda restricted to when I can film because of construction going on outside. And the weather sucks, so I'm gonna have to build a lightbox for a window rather than count on the sun being available.

Oh, yeah, the other restriction/obstacle: I'm 100 yards from a church. With a bell tower. With bells going off every 15 minutes. So no really long takes. :)

China ball, baby spot w/dimmer, and dolly tracks done. Still need the window stuff done, and set dressing.

Anxious to see some grabs when you wrap the shoot.

Oh, man. I am SO disappointed. I mis-heard the announcement and thought they said whore fest.

Now I gotta start all over.

Obviously, no grabs yet, but...how about some "before" shots? :)

Making a monster using a "life mask" to build the face onto:

(Imagine how thrilled my wife was to lie there for an hour like that. No, that's not shaving cream. It's plaster.)

And here's the set, minus almost everything that makes it look like a set:

Oy, what a mess.

So. As of today:

Cast casted.

Set mostly set-tled.

Shooting 26 August.

Poster-being-done-by-a-pro put on hold because of the casted cast.

Turns out the actors are somewhat inexperienced. Like never have acted before.

We'll see if this one actually makes it to the contest. :(

I hope it does. Just direct them well and they'll do what you want.

Luckily, the script is such that that's not an impossible task. All the good parts occur in the minds of the viewers. The actors just have to plant the seeds.

We'll see how the harvest goes.

The actors backed out.

Guess who probably isn't going to have an entry for this one.

That's f*ing hard, man! My heart goes out to you. Actor-"s"? WTF? I hope you can recast some people. From the looks of things, you're ready to go. I'm cheering for you to pull it off.

I feel ya brother. I'm down in Mannheim and my cohort and I were supposed to shoot last night. Due to tight schedules, we were planning an all-nighter and our "actors" backed out too. Let me know if you need any help. I've got a few people here who aren't actors per se, but are interested in being in a movie. Hit me up.

Or doing something completely different.

Well, my project's shoot is planned for next Mon... if you aren't busy, you're more than welcome to come help out. We're filming in Lampertheim which is between Ramstein and Mannheim. Just let me know. :)

That sucks dan. They probably got scurred cuz your script was rockin and they knew they'd shame it.

I hope you can get something in man.

Does your town have a local film office?
They might have a phone hotline for auditions.

Do you have public meeting houses? Or bulletion boards?
You could post things there.

Try posting notices at the college for actors, or maybe you could put an ad in your local newspaper.

GenJerDan

Actors, schmactors. This is horror fest, right? A ghost story should qualify, and you don't actually have to see the ghost...

spooky138
09-26-2006, 08:42 PM
So... does that mean your entry is a "ghost" entry that we can't see... or you're going to shoot something sans actors?

Well, Gen? What is it? Are ya in or out? Really enjoyed your SciFest entry--looking forward to more from you!

Not this time.

Idiot me, I build a fake bedroom upstairs for this thing, the actors bail, and what happens? My sister-in-law moves into the "bedroom".
