View Full Version : Best Wide Angle Lens
I have a D70s and would like to buy a nice wide angle lens. I really like the feel of primes and I could go up to $1,000. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Luke
Does anyone have any experience with either one of these?

Personally, my favorite walk around lens for my DSLR is the Tokina 12-24 F4. This lens is sharp and one of the only WaZ lenses with a constant aperature, it is also built increadibly tough and is really solid. For most of my work this lens rarely leaves my camera.
Alright, thanks for the helpful info. Im just kind of shopping around right now. Scharky, is that Tokina really heavy?
Thanks
Luke
Scharky, I just noticed we joined the same month and year.

I've seen Scharky's images with that Tokina and talked with him about it, and it is... well (run of pop terms coming) sharp, nice, displaying great bokeh, and produces great images.
Then again, that could be the man controlling that glass as well. Overall when you compare the price of that glass versus some of the other Nikon options, even the entry level fisheyes from Sigma, it is a great value also.
When did the time come when looking at a piece of glass and saying "well $1000 isn't that much" became acceptable? Most likely about the time I was looking at a steadicam flyer and said, "well $6000 isn't that much".
I hate life :(

I like that tokina, but I also like the sigma 10-20... I'd check that one out also.
If you don't need to go that wide then 17-55 Nikon 2.8... but honestly I think the sigma would be the most fun of the lot... and you know what I mean... the tokina would be right there too.
There's nothing cooler then a shot which shows the subject in the distance and the sky directly overhead in the same picture... or say a wheat field from eye level and the subject in the distance and you can (in the picture) look down at the tips of the wheat and see the dirt at your feet... I love wides... really wide... I just can't afford one of the good ones yet.
Thanks guys. I'll keep all that in mind when the time comes.

I like the look a 20mm 2.8 prime gives. Check these out (http://www.cabophoto.com/CUB.htm).
