Helping a guy over here about what of 2 cams that would work best with keying.

it was the HC1 and XM2

HC1 wich do HDV with one cmos ot the XM2 with 3 ccd and DV.

The thing i was most curios about:

Is it possible to extract from the 4:2:0 HDV a 720*540 4:4:4 image?

with newer keyers out there, even something with an mpeg-2 stream and limited color space can be keyed. they do this buy using more than the color channels, in effect, using them with the luminance information which is the highest resolution.

the most recommended one is DV Matte Blast, whcih can be found here:
http://www.dvgarage.com/prod/prod.php?prod=dvmatteb&sub=features

be sure to check out the examples and tutorials where he actually keys HDV footage in real time using Motion 2. the results are beautiful. this plug-in is also made for After Effects. The same company just released Conduit, which is like Shake, which uses the GPU and can do a lot of what Shake can do in real time. It too is for Motion.

One thing to note:
a good key involes a lot more than choosing a background color in one plug-in or filter. when you understand what it's doing, you can create you're own keyer using simple nodes and filters built in to the software you might already have.

no you can't get 4:4:4 out of scaling down HDV.

between HDV at 4:2:0 and DV at 4:1:1, I'de say neither is great. They will both have their advantages and disadvantages. Just light the screen really well and use a wave form monitor, that will get rid of half the battle right there.
