One thing I love about Oakley is the US manufacturing (probably not the clothes but a lot of the high end sunglasses). Any word on where Red will be made? I love supporting US manufacturing, and would love to have another reason to like Oakley (hint hint!).

Red will be built in the Peoples Republic of Orange County.
For many years the Orange curtain has been a almost impenetrable shield to free market ideals and hi tech manufacturing, but when an inventive sunglass magnate decided to revolutionize the world of digital cinematography the first signs of hope began to shine on this oppressed land.
Long live the RED, white and blue.

Damn, that puts an end to all the speculating I was going to do. I would have thought parts would come from Germany, England, Japan, Malaysia, Taiwan, and Korea. I would have thought it would be assembled in Mexico. Speculating is half the fun. Now I have to find something else to do with my time.

don't laugh... we don't have any budget left for a box!

The camera is a loss leader, they're making all their money on boxes.

I'd happily pay the $39.95 for the box. Well RED is changing the face of the cinematography market forever...I just didn't think it would be like this.
I guess you guys will be reselling through the swap meets? I could pick up the RED and some starter lenses in the bin marked "$20,000 or less".
LOL. Back to reality...
Now when can we see renderings of the boxes...:)

Sure thing. Not quite as cool as a camera, but might be worth it!

If Jim is serious about having everything made in CA then this is the place for RED to have its boxes made.
http://www.keycontainer.com/Page4.html
"Key Container is the only independently owned corrugated box manufacturer operating a modern 98" corrugator serving Southern California's industrial end-users since 1956."
To save money, RED could deliver my camera in parts by carrier pigeon instead of having boxes.
