I now have this problem on my new HVX-200 with only 4 hours on the meter.
"Warning. Focus Lock"
(In a search, I found a post for this warning on a DVX-100. My DVX-100 has never done this and I didn't see any conclusive answer in the thread).

Yesterday I was shooting an outdoor wedding by the creek in the beautiful red rocks of Sedona, AZ (my first commercial job with the new camera). I had finished shooting the ceremony (THANK GOD!!!). I had turned the camera off to shoot some stills with my Nikon D2X and I turned the HVX-200 back on to shoot some B-roll of Cathedral Rock and the creek. It made this HORRID clacking noise and the "Warning. Focus Lock" red message was flashing in the LCD panel and the focus was racking back and forth repeatedly. I turned the camera off and on, I tried setting it to manual focus, I turned "Autofocus" off in the SW menu, I pressed the focus button, I turned it off and on and then in desperation pressed every damn button on the camera (except the VCR button). I even took the battery out and put it back. Nothing had any effect.
15 minutes later, as we were walking back to the parking lot, I turned the camera on and it worked perfectly.

I just tried the camera this morning and the "Warning. Focus Lock" was back. I pressed the VCR button and it stopped, I switched it back to "Camera' and it still had the problem. I cycled the button again and it stopped the Focus Lock problem and worked perfectly. I cycled the VCR button again between VCR and Camera and the Focus Lock problem came back. I cycled again and it went away.

Jan, I hope you are monitoring new posts and have some advice. HELP! My new camera is useless in this condition. I can't trust it.

Call your dealer immediately and request an Initial Failure. Hopefully your dealer is close and you bought a US unit. The only solution is to get it fixed or attempt a to get a new camera. 4 hours into use, seems to be in the ball park of the IF.

So who did you by it from and where are you located?

Best,

Jan

Jan,
You're a gem. Thanks for your quick reply.
I bought it from EAR Professional Audio/Video in Phoenix, AZ.
I am in Sedona, AZ. It's a 3 hour round trip to their location.
It could be a lot worse. They are highly "Service after the sale" oriented.
I will be on my way to Phoenix on Monday.
Thanks again,
Randolph

Randolph,

Please be sure to pack up your camera with all, I mean all of the the things that came with it. Do not leave out even the warranty card. Hopefullly EAR will have inventory and can exchange it on the spot, if not we have incoming this week and we should be able to move this to the front of the line. Keep me posted via Private Message.

Best,

Jan
