Love that red lcd stat screen on the side!

Love that too!

But unfortunatelly, the design is going to get modular! "Get Modular, Baby!"

well from what I gathered it'll be camera body/ohb/lens so it shouldn't deviate TOO much from that design.

more modular is a very smart move. If the IBC demo is impressive, I'm buying in a major way.

My only complaint about the RED-concept was the apparently overstyled design. Now it´s going to look real and really good. No complaints anymore about that point from me.

Yep. Obsolete. Reminds me of when I was in architecture school and the professor would pick up a students model and say, "that looks great" and throw it out the window and say, "now start over."

Seriously, modular is the way to keep RED ONE from being obsolete, so that is best. But the obsolete renders look great. I feel bad for the guy that made them, only to have them thrown out the window.

The guy who made them (old renderings) is the guy who is modeling the newer body and system. He's good with it.

Do you work with real models, too?

Of course... that's what we showed at NAB and Cinegear.

Yes, I know. I´ve seen it all on this blog. I meant: Are you developing the ergonomics step by step by evolving models? (well, your reply was so rightout that I´m sure this time you´ll say yes, too. Am I right?) And if so, how many generations of the RED body did your team already have modeled?

Jarred Land

Joe they have a rapid prototype machine in house.. actually a couple of them. It can spit out a full 3d composite lifesize model in a couple hours... Those things are incredibly powerful because it gives you tactile feedback somewhat instantly so you can see what works and doesnt in a real life enviroment.

Sorry for all that posting. But I had some problems with the insertion of the image. Now, here I go... :dankk2:http://img127.imageshack.us/img127/6099/redfinalsmall0om.jpg ah, thank you Jarred. That sounds cool!

ah nice job Joe.. looks good. i kinda like how things keep changing. just when you get used to how the body looks Jim rocks up and changes it all.

We have built over 30 versions on out rapid prototyping machine... more than that in the computer. Still a long way to go.

Nice renders. Think that power switch needs more protection against accidental operation though! :)

I don't want to sound like a downerm but what exactly does the RED camera do? what is it's purpose? sounds exciting but not much explains the function of it.

Yeah, I thought the same about the power switch! It's in such a nice place for a White-balance button... :)

Will the screen be mounted on the main body, or externally mounted on the cages ? I still can't tell....
I've worked with dosen cams so far and had lousy experince with external displays. Some screens evolved slightly, but there's still a long way to go. There are 300 kilopixel 2.5 inch displays now, so over 6-7 inches a pretty good resolution is possible. I'm wondering because I haven't seen any RED statements on display developement so far.
What's your stand on display priority, Jim, based on your cam collection?
Any display data so far ? Or am I asking too much at this point ?

we are all kinda in the dark right now till we see the next update.. but looks like RED is going modular.. that would indicate the monitor could be placed anywhere you wanted it to be placed, or removed and something else brought in. I think the key concept is options.

I believe Jim told me they decided to separate the monitor from the RED body. They have decided to separate the lens mount and sensor section from the electronics.. I seem to remember him telling me/us that
Jay

Jarred Land

yeah your right Jay... he did mention that but its important we remember things not only can change, they are changing... personally, i like the idea of a seperate monitor... if its one thing i would change on all the HD prosumer cameras is the monitors... RED looks like they will give us that option (or even better actually ship with a really good Hi-Def monitor :) )

mmm....sounds nice
-judging on the "previous company's" heritage I don't have any doubts about its fragility and humidity resistance
The thought of placing the monitor where I need it AND having a large detailed preview makes my eyes happy....:)

Hmm i wonder where the logo came from, or this is just pure coincident.

I was just searching on the word RED on flickr and found a picture of some red japanese things.
And after a closer look i saw someting that reminded me of the RED logo.
Look at the thing in the 2nd row, 3rd column: http://www.flickr.com/photos/brandnewbrain/131402812/

Also notice the header: "Red in Japan - mosaic".
Mosaic is used in the Beyer filter and if im not mistaken that would be implemented in the RED camera?

Coincident? ;)

(or maybe this is already official and i have just woken up from a good sleep under a big rock)

I think Jesper has uncovered a conspiracy here.....who said that, "There is no coincidence in design."...
