Question to Mr. Jannard; since 35mm lenses will fit onto RED One, would it be wise to scoop up some high quality 35mm manual focus lenses, such as Contax, while they are still in low demand? Digital photography has killed the demand for traditional 35mm cameras and lenses. People that know they are going to buy a RED camera could go around to all the local camera stores and get some good deals on lenses that no one seems to want anymore. Camera stores would be happy to get rid of them, not knowing that RED camera will boost demand for them. Should I act now, before they get wise? What adapters will be made for RED One? What brand lenses should someone be looking for bargains on? I know RED will sell their own brand of lenses, but will they be that much better?

This is a very good question... I think Canon and Nikon manual will be a bit safer than Contax, but in time there should be many mounts available for the RED camera. This path is only viable if you can live with non-cine style lenses. Also, I wouldn't worry about a shortage of 35mm still lenses to fill the needs of the RED customer base. We are talking about a pretty big difference in size of market. Remember... 35mm still image size is different than S35mm cine. So wide in a still camera will not be so wide in a cine camera (unless it is a lens made for an APS size sensor).

Jim, will you (RED) be selling the still-lens mounts? Or will you let that be for 3rd parties? Since i cant afford a camera and a full set of cine-primes in the beginning I would really like to order my camera with a Nikon or Canon mount. Thanks!

Also- is there somewhere we can get info on the advantages of 35mm lenses vs. Super 16mm for RED? Great lenses out there and they're are not that expensive for example:

I think a lot of that will depend on the look & feel, and budget of the project.
Interesting background info on S16 lenses at this link:
http://www.cinematechnic.com/resources/optics_for_super-16.html
The RED One Recording Matrix has direct info on the uses and advantages of S35, 35mm, S16, and 2/3" B4 lenses. For example, using S35 and 35mm lenses with RED in 2k Windowed image format will 2x the focal length, if long focal length is what you're after.

There are tons of outlets to buy affordable, used 35mm and S16 lenses.

assuming there is no licensing issues with making the mounts i dont see why they wont offer them. Alot of people are going to take that route.. especially people just getting into this level of camera.
