I recently had a problem with my HVX.
When shooting in 720/25PN @ 25 FPS it was fine, but when I changed the frame rate to say 12 FPS or 50 FPS and start shooting the camera would crash with the "P2 Micon Error" within minutes.
I contacted 'Jan Crittenden' on DVX User, who advised me that she had heard of this problem, on rare occasion and that the camera needed to be exchanged at my dealer.
I took the HVX back to my dealer and fortunately a Panasonic Broadcast Rep was also at the store.
After two hours of testing, swapping and calling Panasonic HQ we didn't seem to be getting anywhere. We had four HVX's there and I could get them all to exhibit the same problem.
We finally uncovered the problem, and you won't believe me when I tell you this.
The SD Card was at fault, a regular 64 MB SD Card from my local camera store. The SD card would read fine in my PC, but when inserted in to the HVX it would cause the camera to exhibit the 'P2 Micon Error' when operated in the above conditions. When we replaced the SD card the problem didn't reoccur on any of the cameras.
Just a little piece of information, you never know when you might need it..

Thanks for posting that -- I am sure others will benefit.
Maybe it's time for a separate "FAQ's" or "Troubleshooting" section on the HVX?
(I'm secretly hoping that one day there will be a "toots" section as well.)

I don't think it's an SD card issue because I don't have an SD card in my camera. It may be a coincidence, or it's an error that has more than one cause. I got the error for the first time today, which was the first day of shooting for our feature. I got the error after I started to transferring the data from the P2 cards to a MacBook Pro through Firewire out of the camera. Every clip was good on those two cards (I start copying both at the same tim).

Hi
We have just purchased our HVX200 and on first day of shooting, our camera gave us the exact same error reading.
Funnily enough, our canon multimedia 16mb sd card is not recognizable in the camera.
We have now removed it.
Before reading this thread and removing the sd card, we tested all the frame rates moving up through them, app 2 sec each. When we got to 50, the camera recorded for a short while then gave us new error: recording ram overflow.
With the card gone , recording just fine.
Final test: Put the card BACK in, 2nd error displayed now only: recording ram overflow.
Can anybody recommend a working sd card please?
Regards to all fellow HVX users:thumbsup:

So, I'm getting the same message, repeatedly, when trying to import footage from my P2 card. I've been using an HVX for some time. Mostly using a Firestore without any problems, I've used the P2 card occasionnaly with no problem. But as of a few months ago, impossible to import footage from the P2 card while it is inserted in the camera. It works with a Powerbook. I wrote a PM to Jan directly to see if she has a suggestion.
I'll see if I can find a SD card to put in the camera and see if that changes someting.
Cheers,
Damien

Our camera at work has the same problem. We don't have an SD card in the camera. The only time the error occurs is when we are transferring footage from the camera to a computer via Firewire. It happens everytime at seemingly random point during the transfer. Good thing I have a PowerBook!

probably a silly question (I may have read too fast here and missed it) . . . but
Have those of you with unrecognizable cards formatted them FIRST with the camera?

Yes, my card was formatted in the camera.

Glad to hear you cleared it all up

Just to clarify...so you were taking out the SD card and putting it into the other cameras as well?

It's strange I always get the p2 micon error when I'm trying to import my footage onto an iMac but when I try to import the footage on a G5 it works fine, maybe it's the intel chips? or slower computers.

We are getting the same message when importing or just dragging footage to G5 edit bays, but it works fine on my G5, hooked to the same server, and old iMacs. We tried different cameras, some without SD cards, booted from a separate hard drive... nothing works. We have to back everything up to a firewire drive connected to the camera and then load it onto the computer. I have never found an actually answer to this problem.
