I'm feeling rather humbled learning a new camera....especially when it's not at my disposal! My question is this....if I'm shooting in the Film Cam mode with the HVX, and using Variable Frame Rates....do I need to adjust the shutter angle to achieve the correct exposure, or just the iris??? Thank you in advance....and there will be more questions to come. :)

First use the iris. If you need or want to use the shutter that will affect your exposure amd again you would use the Iris for fine exposure adjustment. Look at the manual and read up on the zebra settings and see how the spot meter works.
The spot meter is very handy.
Enjoy

Thanks for your quick reply Mike. I'm familiar with zebras...you mentioned spot meter. Are you referring to the Marker...that measures Image Level??? Or something totally different?

Yes, that gives you a precise number for exposure. I come from a photography background and we always used an ambient light meter and a spot meter for more precise lighting control.
