i plan on using a pc to download p2, but want the option of using fcp in post. Are there any format issues in doing this? is it as simple as just transeferring over the mxf files from a pc computer/external drive to the mac? thank you.

I believe a bunch of people are already doing this.

Make certain that the folder includes the txt file.

I offload to a pc laptop with an extra 100gb hd installed, then back home transfer via a fat32 formatted 250bd disc to hdd backup and mac formatted harddiscs. no problems.

Use the program called mac drive on the PC laptop. That way you can write/read hfs+ (mac format) hard disks. It works flawlessly and I haven't seen any slowing of speed.

If I understand this correctly, this would be a good idea if I was certain i was going to edit on a mac, I really want to just make sure I have the option to do so. I know I want to use a pc laptop as far as workflow while filming bc downloading the p2 on a laptop seems like the best way to go. (don't like the direct to laptop firewire, using the camera as an offload device nor the added cost of p2 store, firestore, cineporter) So after a metric ton of research, I think I have the laptop selected. note to apple, if the powerbook had this feature this would have been a done deal. I would have been a convert. (No interest in a used one that does)

I have no experience editing, but plan on learning one of the formats. Edius seems to be a quality program, but i don't want to get locked into a system (equipment, learning curve) until i know enough to judge it. fcp is definely a fan favotite around here, and i am sure with good reason, so I would feel cheated if I didn't leave the option open. that is my long winded reason for the question. thanks to all for there responses thus far.

ps, i know there is a card bus adapter in the works, but unless it is weeks not months away, no go.
