I'm going to shoot a short film, and I want to shoot it at 1080/24pa, however, I have no way to edit HD at this point. All I have is Sony Vegas.

My question is: does the HVX allow you to downconvert like the Sony FX1? Would it be possible to shoot my short film in 1080/24pa, and edit in SD now, but still keep the original 1080 footage so I can make a High-def version later when I have the means?

Thanks.

(One more question: If this is possible, then what aspect ratio would the SD downconversion be? 16:9 native? Or would it be similiar to squeeze with a loss in resolution?)

you can downcovert in camera only to tape (DV25) - the chip is native 16:9 so you will not have the same issues as with squeeze

Thanks. DV25 is just standard DV correct?

yes - its just standard dv - keep in mind that as of now you cant complete an edit in SD and then online it in HD (at least with avid on a pc) so to complete the edit in hd you would have to manually type in all the time codes for each edit. This is due to the fac that avid relies on tape names and p2 footage doesnt have a tape name

Thanks again.

I don't think I'm going to do the above. I was planning on re-editing a high-def version of the footage when my equipment is up to the task. But it's good to know. Thanks.
