A French filmmaker was shot to death in his Los Angeles area home in an apparent robbery. Stolen equipment includes two film cameras, two prosumer miniDV cameras, and a generator. His truck was also taken but later recovered.

The indie film community in Los Angeles (and beyond) is connected enough to be able to keep an eye out for this stuff...

From CBS2: (http://www.topix.net/content/cbs/2986762068416853896719975496904224729999)

French filmmaker... Mihran Topouzogou, 55, who had been living in the Llano area, was found shot to death in his home in the 19000 block of East Avenue S (in Llano) shortly before noon on June 1, according to Sgt. Tim Miley of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Neighbors found his body, with bullet wounds to the chest, and the home ransacked, Miley said. The motive appeared to be robbery.

Stolen items include "two 16 mm French-made Eclair cameras", "two Panasonic video cameras, model DVX100", and a diesel generator.

Alas, if you know anyone who's trying to unload any of these types of items on the cheap, or know anyone who's suddenly come across these cameras, take heed. (the DVXs can run between $2500 and $3000, new, and the Eclairs for $5000 to $8000).

A $10,000 reward for information leading to the killer is being offered - if you have a tip call detectives at (323) 890-5500.

That's what we should be talking about when we hear of a travesty. This makes me sick. I hope those people burn alive.
