is it possible to do effects for injuries like in the movie irreversible? (most notably the fire extinguisher scene). I realize it requires alot of layering, but is it possible with normal programs?

ps. I don't need the crazy virtual camera movements, I'm just concerned about the realistic facial destruction

have you seen the behind the scenes? That was a seriously complicated shot to pull off and they did it very well. The whole collapsing of the dudes skull looked so damn real.

That was one of the most horrifying scenes ever.

yes i know it was great and complicated. I just wanna know if it can be done as well with normal compositing software. I'd assume its a little easier to do than a full-out cg shot, but I dont know. Please help me out here

Doing anything with humans that needs to be photoreal is really hard to pull off in post. There are things you can do in the comp, but ultimately, to be realistic, certain shots need 3D. Maybe try this practical first, then enhance it in post, best of both worlds!
