I just can't get this going. I have the HVX connected via FW to the PC, and:

Cineform AspectHD cannot see it
Avid cannot see it
And of course, Adobe Premiere Pro cannot see it

But, it comes up in "My Computer" with a little camera icon called "Panasonic DV Tape Recorder/Player"

+ The camera is set to Video Mode
+ I've tried all flavors of the HD Recording formats, no dice
+ Under "Other Functions" I have the following settings:
Remote: Off
1394 Control: Off
1394 Cmd Sel: REC_P
PC Mode: 1394 Device

I've played with those settings just to see the results but I haven't found a successful combination. I must surely be missing something obvious -- lurking in the thread with this title (minus "-- for the PC" ;) all you Mac users made it sound so easy!

In order to record directly to HD with a PC, you need a program capable of this -- the only one I know of currently is Edius Broadcast.

You can, however, stream regular DV and record to your PC using any program that supports DV capture. I've done this, and it works fine.

Avid will work. What version are you running? I've done it in 5.2.1.

I'll leave those questions for Michael Phillips; ask for requirements over in the Avid forum.

The best capture solution though is going to be Serious Magic DVC Rack. It's incredible.

They haven't committed to a date as far as I know. I would expect that it'll be ready within the next month or two.

Is the direct capture in dvc rqack going to be done on usb?

No, it's done via firewire. You can capture to a USB drive, but the connection from the camera to the PC is via firewire.

The most recent comment from someone at Serious Magic was on July 7th and did not contain even a hint of a possible release date, just a statement that it was being worked on again after getting sidelined by other priorities.
