Hi all! There are 2 types of workflow when working on MXF in FCP.
1、Editing MXF, Exporting MXF
2、Transform MXF to MOV, Editing MOV, Exporting MOV, Pack to MXF

Which is popular when you are editing P2 MXF? Thanks!

FCP only transcodes mxf into mov wrapper.
You can't edit mxf native in FCP at all.

As an aside... given FCP rewraps the essence of the MXF file into a QuickTime (.mov) file, and at this time does not make use of much of the metadata that may be embedded in MXF files, in terms of workflow, I suggest what you back-up as your ARCHIVE should be the original MXF media, and consider FCP's version in Capture Scratch just that, a capture scratch. If you export both an EDL and FCP XML document of your project when you're done and archive that too, then if you need to recreate the project in the future, it's likely you will be able to ingest the original MXF media you archived. Workflow issues really depend on the specific requirements of your project, you may not need to archive the media if it's a one shot deal. On the other hand, if the media might have a life beyond the current project, MXF provides the best long term digital file storage solution because the format can be read by a number of applications and as a SMPTE standard, you can expect support for it for quite some time to come. What you archive for long-term storage should not be dependent on any specific software application.
