That's a ring light alright

Look's like a 57 Chevy I once owned. Can you call Batman with that thing ?

I probably could! I get about T 11 1/2 at 5 ft at 500 ISO. It's too bright for an eyelight right now - you have to dim it right down to about T 2.0 to not blind your talent but then the colour temp sores. I'm gonna build a gel frame holder to throw in some ND and try globing it with 20watt bulbs. It's got 50's in there right now.

Jesus, this remind of an alien encounter or something! It looks great! Lets see some footage, maybe with just that light turned on in a dark room.

Dont forget to turn the ND filter to 1/64, and does the subject wear a welding sheild?

two questions..

1. Is it powered by AC? Can you get it onto batteries, or strictly plugin? (although with its size, "portable" is relative)

2. Could you shrink it down to a smaller frame, smaller diameter circle.. bump the bulbes closer up to each other.. hmmmmm

I have an Ikea near here in DC.. and they offer a lot of little halogen fixtures that look like this.. relatively cheap too (and on their website too).

1. The unit is powered by AC. I suppose I could get a car battery and an inverter and power it that way. It uses GU10 base 120 volts bulbs. 12volt MR16's would have been nice but they would have been a lot more expensive.

2. I probably could have gotten the frame a litle smaller but not by much. To fit that many fixtures on it, have a trim large enough to be clamped, have an opening the size i needed (it will accomodate most matteboxes) and keep it structurely sound (the proximity of each drilled out hole for each light) it's about as close as it can be comfortably. The unit is 22" in diameter.
