I came across this app and thought it might be useful for those who can't afford/"borrow" Photoshop. From what I've seen so far, it's very much like PS. I did the banner below with it. (Yeah, yeah, it's been awhile since I've used Photoshop) Check it out if you like.

I like the Gimp. its good (for being free) and it gets simple photoshoping done. Heres a random thing I made:

and now it has a complete anmation package that import avi and mpg files (including hdv files) into images to edit it.
I am talking about the gimp project.

I'm been trying to use it, but got frustrated b/c first I can't figure out if you can control brush size, and half hte the things I tried using jsut wouldn't work for me.

It's very simple to control brush size in the Gimp (but no one knows why the devs don't have a default configuration for it).
Most people seem to like controlling brush size with the mouse wheel, but you can control it key strokes or other things, too. For the mouse wheel, simply go to File | Preferences | Input Controllers. Then, under Mouse Wheel, find and edit the actions for Scroll Up and Scroll Down. They should be context-brush-radius-increase and context-brush-radius-decrease, respectively.
This works for dynamic brushes. You could also have the scroll wheel go to next and previous brushes for static brushes. I hope this helps someone.
