Am using the trial version of Edius. Edius is new to me. Have some questions, any help appreciated. Am using the HVX200E, and shooting 1080/25p.
1. Bit of confusion setting up new project, as I couldn't find a DVCPRO HD1080/25p option. Went with HDV 1080/25p instead. Not sure if this is the best choice though.
2. Exporting... would like to export as DVCPRO HD 1080/24p (ie: same resolution, no compression or anything, just 4% slower). I don't need the audio.
3. Once that's done, are the newly exported files free to live outside of their original P2 file structure?
Cheers.

Hey underseafan,
using the trial too, but honestly had no chance to test 1080/25p, but somewhere in the corner of my head i remember that there was just one mode that works with HD in Pal countries in version 3.(hopefully updated to all pal modes in v#4.
So i think it works just 1080/50i, but i am not sure.
Anyway i would suggest you NOT to use the HDV setting, cause i think its just different, and i guess that it wount play back the footage in realtime, cause its definitly a different codec.
For exporting you can do whatever format you need:any kind of avis, you can do a uncompressed canous hq codec..mpeg, whatever.
What you cant do right now is a 2.46 compression.
enjoy and dont forget to post findings, i fell its not to easy to do postproduction in pal country rigth now...!(i like edius for editing, but what comes after?)

Hi hvx germanboy,
Its true that Edius will have PAL support for HDVCPRO-HD in V4... most probably...
As for post in PAL... Well I just disvovered the joys of CineForm intermadiate philosophy and I like it alot. You can edit with any NLE that suports avi. well, almost with all of them, and has realtime suport for PremierePro2 (Aspect-HD, prospect-HD). Check it out. I was going for Edius (and still considering it of caurse) but if Aspect-HD does what it says its probably a much better choice.

Thanks. So I won't choose the HDV settings. The trouble now is that the only other HD (and non-HDV) options in Broadcast are:
Canopus HD 1080/60i
Canopus HD 1080/50i
Canopus HD 1080/30P over 60i
Canopus HD 1080/24p over 60i
Canopus HD 1080/24pa over 60i
Canopus HD 720/60p
Canopus HD 720/23.97P over 59.94
Canopus HD 720/29.97P over 59.94p
Canopus HD 720/24p over 60p
Canopus HD 720/25p over 60p
Canopus HD 720/50p over 60p
I've heard that it's not supposed to matter what you import into Broadcast, as these settings apply to export. But even so, my required export format is none of the above.
Andreas, from what I've read and heard Cineform doesn't support 1080/25p with the HVX. How are you getting it to work?
Is there really no software out there that will import 1080/25p over 50i, and export as 1080/24p? Someone please tell me I've missed something...

From CineForm site:
Aspect-HD
Supported HD/SD resolutions:
- 1440 x 1080: 50i / 60i / 24p / 25p / 30p
- 1280 x 1080: 60i
- 1280 x 720: 24p / 25p / 30p / 50p / 60p
- 960 x 720: 24p / 25p / 30p / 50p / 60p
- 720 x 480: 60p / 60i
- 720 x 576: 50p / 50i
And yes, you can resize, down convert, up convert, go from 25p to 24p and 24p to 25p

I am still waiting from David Newman an anwser on this, that in my opinion will put things straight with 1080i25p (and1080i24p) workflow.

Hey Andreas,
thanks for the tip,
someone else already told me about cineform, i tried, maybe it is due to my skillz, butthe files i converted didnt have the right taste of quality to me.
Dont get me wrong,it still looks good, but i got the feeling that i can see the loss of quality.
But i just did few tests, so i think there have to be more to come.
I know that the compression to AVI. is not a CBR, but i am still wonderingt that the final avi.files are much smaller, INCLUDING 2 Audiotracks.(compared to .mxf file)...so there has to be some loss in quality, i am not expirienced enough with it right now, but i fear to lose important parts of the quality i paid for...we will see what happens with edius 4, its supposed to include all hvx pal modes, i hope they will make this true.
I also hope that there will be some more cc (like "curves" in AE), so one could do most of the parts in edius itself, without having to think about ANY conversion, cause this takes finally the time that we wanted to save with the new P2 workflow....!
p.s. keep your success posting "underseafan" !
