Bucketman.

Sorry MsManhattan - can't agree with that comment at all.
Dahopa - funny concept and well executed. Just a little too long of a joke for my taste. Much to be proud of, though!

Yeah, I was definitely not with the majority on the original film -- it was not at the top of my SciFest list... I know, I know -- all boils down to personal taste...

MsManhattan,
Thanks for the comment. Really glad it made you smile. That's a terrific dividend to the fun we had making it.

'What did she have that I didn't have besides a taudry red dress that clung to her body like a lowered red ferrari on the pacific coast highway on a rainy day?'
At first glance I was wondered what was going on with the homage to Similo (For those of you not familiar you must watch Similo to get the full Jist) and then saw the dude with the bucket on his head.
This was brilliant. It has made my morning. I was laughing the whole time, the poorly done green screen, the boat going by in the background ...
Great job ! I had a very fun time with this one. My major prereq on these films are' Am I being entertained?' and you totally suceeded big time ! SIMILO is a wonderful film technically but this film was a far more enjoyable experience for me as well MissManhattan.
Great fun Brian!
On a serious note:
The Voice Over was great; care to share any techniques ? It soudned wonderful.

Hey - thanks MrP. I guess you'd REALLY hate the long version then!:D
Absolutely hilarious. Gotta love the "expressions" on Bucketmans face.
OLBoy, thanks very much. Mischa Haman-Dass, the actor who played Bucketman, really worked hard to pull those off. I was sceptical at first, but he really came through.
For some reason, I was expecting a movie to homage to that movie. Wasn't expecting a bucket, though.
Thanks for the comment. Yes, someone had to do it. OK, maybe not, but it was fun and I was happy to oblige. And as for the bucket, my other ideas pailed by comparison.

Oh sure. Now everyone thinks they're a critic!
Green screen? What's a green screen?
Oh, and the first person to tell me where I filmed the boats gets a big piece of ... satisfaction (and it's really not that hard a question).
Seriously though, John, the line was actually: "Aside from the cheap, tarty red dress that clung to her surgically-enhanced curves like a lowered Ferrari with bald tires on the Pacific Coast Highway on a rainy day.". And that's only important to me because (a) I wrote it; and (b) my VO actress extraordinaire must have run out of breath the first seventeen takes on that line. MAN! Do we have fodder for out-takes!
And on your "serious note" on the VO's, the best part about that was that they were recorded by my actress in LA - without ANY involvement by me! I sent her the script, she recorded and e-mailed me multiple takes (and I can still barely listen to many of those - they totally kill me) and I picked the ones I wanted, used a little crappy little Roxio audio editor to tune them up a little and plopped them into Vegas. So I figure the less I actually contribute to a piece, the better it gets!
Thanks John. Glad it brought a smile.

Yes ! Of course.
There were so many lines I couldnt keep up. She did great. It's funny. At first, when I saw homegirl in the woody area, I though immediately of the zombiefest entry and was like 'He likes chick's alone on th wood's'

Bwahahahaha!
LMFAO.
Man that was some funny funny shizzle.
They say great paraody is very close to the thing its riffing on, and the beginning of your film creeped me out.
I was like OH NO .... either
A) this is the beginning of the dreaded S I M I L O clones that were phophecied (is that a word?) after that auspicious films debut "I loved his movie so much I made one just like it!"
B) you were too gay to think people wouldn't notice you were totally ripping Maccy G off.
C) you were making a Maccy G fan boy film
All of the above possibillities filled me with a cold wet icky feeling ...
and then ( right at the moment you intended I imagine ) "gobi desert ... just after dinner" I figured out what you were up to you sly bastard you.
I slapped my desk and stomped in pure guffawing delight several times in this thing.
Like John said -- so many good -- make thath great lines, it was hard to keep up man. Personal favs include (forgive me for paraphrasing) "I knew there were somethings you could never do ... like turn your head without the assistance of your hand"
her delivery really made it work as well, completely, totally dry ... spot on! Just stay in character and let the line do the work - excellent.
My big ding is on the quality of the sound as John so diplomatically pointed out.
Were you just rushed? Hopefully you will redo for the DVD - I wanna watch this again with that element up to par with the rest. Such a shame with her excellent vocal work. How bout a little foam on that mic, a little D esser and d popper filter in your NLE, a little compression.
I worked with an audio sweetener for the fist time on my project, if rerecording is not an option, then lets get him that track to celan up for the DVD.
aside from the audio ding ...
Excellent work and kept me entertained and was ballsy and funny.
You really get parody -- play it as straight as possible and let the setups and lines do the work -- nice. I wanna see more comic work like this from you for purely selfish reasons

LOL genius man.
I started watching it and I was saying to myself "WTF this guy ripped off similo", then I realized you were making fun of it and it totally rocked my world.
Loved it. The pillow fight scene had me rolling. haha As said before, one of the most important criterea is "was it entertaining" and you definitely achieved that. Excellent work man.

you mean the her performance or the recording ?
A++ on the perfomance
but on my studio speakers and her syballent "S"es were taking my head off and there were a couple of "hurmph" breaths and thumps into the mic, and I assumed that it was EQued so much to get the breathes and pops out that theat the 5k range (which can give a lot of clarity) was super cranked to the point of making the voice sound tinny and the consanents overly aspirate.
I thought you were being sarcastic, about the mic techniques, lol. Maybe I'm on crack -- but I don't want to dwell on it further, because its not the the thing that stands out about the film to me ... just the only criticism I had with it.
So lets move on from that moment ... that is if "one moment or experience" can ever "be forgotten ... or does it allways lurk in the shadows like slatherin rabbid dog ... ... waiting for a taxi." hehe -- another brilliant line.

Hey guys. Thanks (and I'll post some specific, knowledgable replies as soon as I finish ordering Sound Editing 101 from amazon.com), but I need to jump in to set one thing straight really early (and I know the original comment wasn't meant this way, but I'm using it as a springboard anyway).
Bucketman is a parody/homage to Similo. Not to get too overly precise here, but nothing should be taken as "making fun" of what went before. As far as I am concerned I am about as qualified to "make fun" of Similo (or any other entry for that matter) as a kid who can't ride a bike is to criticize the landing skills of a pilot of an F22-A. On a winding runway. With bald tires. On a rainy ...
Oh never mind.
Now I just gotta go find my credit card for amazon.com ...
Thanks again.

Whoa! At first I thought
1. This reminds me of Similo
2. Ok this has to be a joke
3. This is too well made to be a joke...WTF?
4. Ok this is definitely a joke
You lured me in! I really enjoyed this film. The real ride you had me on was questioning myself, not so much the movie. I heard someone once say that art makes people talk, it's not just a pretty picture or technicalities. That's what you're doing. Once the roller coaster of spoof climbed that hill it dropped down into hilarious, stomach dropping and more blatant humor.
high marks all around
PS. The voiceover sounded great. I liked the effect going on.

ha!! Yes, I do agree, it was a hilarious movie. Such contrast in the VO and the visuals. :) I really dug the part when he turned his head with his hand... at first, I would like.. Ooh gosh.. I can see his hand. And then all the sudden the VO made a comment on it.
There were some really cool stuff in the movie for sure. His expressions were priceless.
I suppose the only thing that got to me was the VO volume. It was nice when it was there, but when the "gate" kicked in, (I assume it was a noise gate?) it got a little distracting. Clean audio, fuzzy, clean, fuzzy. I'd almost rather hear the fuzzy stuff throughout ya know? Music selection was really nice and I think worked really well. I assume that was stock music?
Green screen work actually worked with the film and its context.
congrats on your film and getting it in!
cheers!

If I've managed "cold wet icky", then my job here is done.
... Like John said -- so many good -- make thath great lines, it was hard to keep up man. Personal favs include (forgive me for paraphrasing) "I knew there were somethings you could never do ... like turn your head without the assistance of your hand"
OK, so I've got to give credit to Kristine. Moments (literally) before we shot that take, she was (in her words) "peeing her pants" laughing. It was Bucketman's first time in the car with her, and it was killing all of us. But she pulled it together and managed all her head turns (without using her hands) and "meaningful gazes" without breaking up. What a pro.
... her delivery really made it work as well, completely, totally dry ... spot on! Just stay in character and let the line do the work - excellent.
That's my VO actress. Awesome awesome awesome.
My big ding is on the quality of the sound as John so diplomatically pointed out.

aside from the audio ding ...
Yeah. Sure I was rushed. So rushed that I think I finished about three days before the deadline. And some of the audio issues were because we didn't use foam or a screen on the mic. And it was recorded a little low so I had to bring it up 12dbs to make it usable, which nicely brought out the pops and the "s's". And I have no freaking clue what a "D esser" is (isn't that what they use on airplane wings in Finland before they take off in winter?). Or for that matter what a "d popper" filter is.
Hey! Screw you Jack! You're making me feel freaking inferior. Again!

I'll have to go through this thread later & read the comments, but I really enjoyed this one. I told my wife in advance it was going to be a spoof/comedy (I did read that much at least in advance), so she watched it with me & we both chuckled throughout.
Then I was able to dig up SIMILO for her, and she had even more laughs as she saw what you were spoofing ... which I could have shown her that first, but oh well.
VERY ENTERTAINING, ESPECIALLY for those of us who got to see SIMILO in the last festival. I also REALLY enjoyed your VO artist ... great voice.

Where's the SIMILO guy? Is he gonna' check in on this one?
I'm in full agreement with Jack... I guess I'm a little slow because I got the same sinking feeling in my stomach, about to throw a brick through the monitor for the blatant rip-off... then on the opening credit part I started giggling... by the bedroom I was outright "gaffaw" laughing and choking on my own tongue... yeah, I was wishing that you and the SIMILO guy had some kind of online fight about his movie... as if you'd be saying, "HA! I could have done that!"... or something like that... it was killing me thinking of it like a cocky filmmaker setting out to prove he could out-similo SIMILO... kind of like Ed Wood deciding he could do a better Schindler's or something.
Yeah... good stuff... I can't wait to show everybody that I showed SIMILO to.

Finally got my Internet back and was able to download Buckethead. Strange coincidence but I had just watched Similo last night (reviewing some old sci-fi fest entries) and the first film I watched this morning was Buckethead so I got the joke almost immediately. Then it hits you like a ton of bricks. Sooooooo goooood!
Seems to push SIMILO into a whole new strata.
"Star Wars" had "Hardware Wars"
"Play It Again Sam" made the perfect double feature followup for "Casablanca"
Now "Similo" has "Bucket Man"
You'd be a very lucky film maker indeed to have your film satirized as well as this bucket brigade did.

Just got through watching this again. It just gets better with every viewing. I am escpecially impressed with the dialogue, if you can call VO dialogue. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG) Normally, I prefer a story that doesn't rely on VO to tell its story but in this case it's not only appropriate, it's essential. It is so quotable and I pick up something new on each viewing:
"I knew that you weren't just the usual tight pants, size XL codpiece and a cape."
I've tried to determine whether I would hold this in such high esteem had I not seen Similo. I think I would. I watched it the last time pretending I hadn't seen it before and that I had never seen Similo. I listened to the story as a parody on superhero/love stories. Fuck, yeah, it works on its own, too. I'm going to try and confirm this over the next couple of days by showing it to people who haven't seen Similo. My bet is they're going to find it a very funny take on the superhero theme. Thanks for this entry. It's going on my hall of fame disk.
I almost wonder if in the future we'll see a parody of Bucketman. Probably not.
You have a great dry humor. I look forward to seeing more of it. Props on top of props.

That was really funny. The fun really goes up with the iron and sex scenes.
But for me the best part is the x tapes on his eyes when he is dead, very cartoonish.
Steve,
Thanks for taking the time to comment. I had to laugh when I asked Kristine for her iron. She gave me an odd look, we shot the scene and then she looked at the storyboards. Her comment was "You PLANNED that?"
As for the "X's" over the eyes, I can't take credit for that. I think that was Kristine's idea (or maybe Mischa. Or Craig. Or the other Craig). Cartoonish was definitely what we wanted. Or Raphaelite. I think we were closer to cartoonish.
I could have done that!"... or something like that... it was killing me thinking of it like a cocky filmmaker setting out to prove he could out-similo SIMILO... kind of like Ed Wood deciding he could do a better Schindler's or something. ...
Thanks Matt.
Again, I loved Similo. Maybe some of the fever-posting about Similo planted a seed to do a parody. But if any of the Similo guys saw Bucketman, hopefully they'd laugh. And nobody ever parodies stuff that is shi*.
And speaking of fever-posting and planting seeds, I better get back to watching the fun on Jack Daniel Stanley's thread ...

Dahopa - Don't worry about relocating. You're not the only one who has parodied another DVXfest film. Antomic did a small parody of my film, The Loner, which won last year, and then I parodied his film, The Morning After. BUT you are the first to have the guts to enter a DVX parody into a festival. LOL :) I hope McG is cool and appreciates the effort you put into this. It's REALLY good. I've watched it a few more times and even showed it to some of my Thai friends. They thought it was great even without seeing the film on which its based. I'll be selling copies of your movie in the local market. :)
spidey - I'm pretty sure the water boat scene was a joke. They were going for something outrageous to place in the background and thought it would be funny if they were on the water. Kind of like the movie, Airplane!, where anything goes. Speaking of, don't they have Cowboys with guns chasing their car in one scene in Airplane! ?
You know, now that I think about it, your film had a lot of similarities to "Airplane!". That's not a bad thing. Airplane! is brilliant. But the Bucketman kind of looks like the Autopilot n the movie and the lead actress does a lot of Voiceover and she also does the nasty with the autopilot. Remember, when he starts to deflate. :)

Hey Spidey. Thanks. I'm making notes of people's preferences for the next one.

Ahhh. It's all becoming clear now ...
also why is driving in hong kong at one point. he was driving near causeway bay!?
And SPIDEY wins the prize. And now I get to tell the story, so blame him.
Around May 16 I'm on the Star Ferry heading across Hong Kong Harbour to Wanchai having visited my favourite little Irish bar in Tsim Sha Tsui, so I'm thinking about (what else) finishing Bucketman. And it's a really awesome harbour, and it's close to the magic hour. And I'm thinking the BG to the car scene. So being totally unaffected by the 1/4 pint of beer in me (and do you know how hard it is to order beer in a shot glass?), out comes my (hold on now, kiddies, we're going for a ride) Sony DSC-V3 digi-camera and I video the harbour, never believing it could be usable footage.
But I plopped the footage (640x480 30 fps) into Vegas and voila! Given that I was blurring the BG anyway, the shot worked. At least I thought so.
And given that I just admitted that I used a Sony consumer digital camera for Bucketman, I think I just DQ'd myself from the voting.
DANG!

PK. It's always great to receive comments (and interpretive assistance) from someone I respect. Thanks, man.
And yeah, the Airplane auto-pilot really hit me only after I got into editing. I really hadn't thought of that before, but there is a clear similarity, I think. Maybe too close, now that I consider it ...
Now if I'd only thought of the cowboys chasing the car ...
(and ps - Thailand is one of my favourite places in the Universe. You're lucky to be there. And next time I'm in Bangkok, I'm heading to Patpong to look for pirated copies of Bucketman. And that's gonna be my story and I'll be sticking to it.)

I mentioned in another post how all the Herofest entries suffered for absolutely terrible scripts. Many of the films have really nailed other aspects: acting, score, cinematography, etc. But none nailed a really good script. Bucketman was closest, because it just made me laugh. Then again, the script was also already written for you! You emulate an excellent existing film (Similo), and then added your very very funny take on it. I thought Bucketman was funny indeed. But if the only film that got a half-way decent script needed to use another film as a template, we all need to go to writing school, not film school. (I'll go put on my bulletproof vest now.)

So much to say and so little time (2:1 in the Germany/Costa Rica game at half time - unreal!). In no particular order:
I categorically agree with every statement in your post - but only in relation to Bucketman and definitely not for any of the other entries. There were many, many good, original scripts here. But then again, I've not read the scripts - just experienced the stories brought to life in the films.
You are absolutely correct, of course, that the Bucketman script indeed was already written for me. Not one original line. Not one original thought. Hell, I didn't even need to use my Screenwriter program - just my handy Xerox machine. Gosh. How did you know?
As for more time at writing school, I'm guilty. For me, a couple of degrees from nine years of University (those are the places you go to when you graduate from High School and are too dim to get into a Community College) weren't enough ("GASP! He played the education card!"). And I really enjoy academia anyway. It's cool to study, but not actually do. Right?
To quote Lew Hunter "Always remember, individualism is what makes screenplays great, not their uniqueness". And Chris Vogler's entire thesis was "All stories consist of a few common structural elements found universally in myths, fairy tales, dreams, and movies." So did I use a template for Bucketman? Gee, I guess I did. And Similo was, in my view, a pretty nice template.
And now I must remind myself that we're talking about screenwriting techniques, accomplishments and mythic story structure in relation to a short video about the girlfriend of a guy wearing two plastic buckets and turning his head with his hand.
SHEESH!
Now, back to Germany and Costa Rica ...

Jeesh! What are you smokin' up there in "The Far North"? I won't address others' screenplays in DahopaFilms' thread, suffice it to say I can only judge them (having not read them) from what they put on the screen. Sure, they used Similo as a basis for their parody, HOWEVER, the story was different. Perhaps, too subtly for you? And the dialogue, omg, the dialogue was incredible. But then again, I suppose the dialogue really has nothing to do with the screenplay, does it?

Well, I was actually sorta kinda saying I thought your script was among the best, because it did indeed make me laugh. But more in general, I thought it was interesting that the best of the not so good scripts was a parody. That's all.
Oh, and I really shouldn't have said your script was written for you. That was truly over-stating it. I meant I guess the story itself was already there. You did write some damn funny stuff. Funny is funny, and you can't argue with it if it makes you laugh, and that is good writing. Maybe parody is not the most challening writing. But you did it well. And screenwriting was an actual category in the voting for these films. I just felt over all that most of the films were bad scripts with very strong elements otherwise (acting, cinematography, etc.).
I guess nine years of Uni didn't prepare you for constructive criticism though. ;-)

I guess I kinda went off because I couldn't find the "constructive" in the "criticism". Especially of the other films. In essence, "all the rest of the scripts are crap but yours' is the least crappy" is, firstly, damning with faint praise and, secondly, (IMHO) neither constructive nor particularly helpful as criticism.
And notwithstanding your clarification, I was wrong about Poland winning its first round match today, so I'm probably wrong about this too.

Well, yes, that's what I was saying. But not so bluntly, because I'm not deliberately trying to offend anyone. We're all sensitive artists. I'm just trying to give an audience member's opinion. And that is I didn't like any of the scripts in Herofest very much. Some had huge potential, but none pulled it right off in the script department for me. In the Sci-Fi fest I felt there were some really really strong scripts. Similo was a great script. I do, REALLY, think you wrote some great comedic lines and funny ideas into Bucketman. But I can't change my opinion that the stories in Herofest didn't live up to the quality of the other filmmaking attributes (cinematography, acting, etc). Sorry if I chose your thread to bring this point up because I thought your script was good, even though it was a parody that used an existing "story." I also thought Cache and Anonymous were great films with almost great scripts...but in the end suffered for lack of a clear, strong, consistently written script. I mean, I guess it depends on what we all want to achieve in the DVXuser festivals: a great film that can sell your talents and survive in the world (which Bucketman probably can) or just make films for each other on DVXuser. Audiences are ruthless. Even more ruthless than the studio execs who hand out money to artists like us. I guess the "constructive" part of my criticism is I would love to see these talented filmmakers be more rigorous about their stories and scripts.

Hey Sean. That's a lot clearer for me now. I can and do respect that, but I do think many of the other stories were just plain good.
Im sorry, but Similo is better ;) But it really funny ;)
Thanks a lot. I think you and I are in total agreement. If someone said they thought Bucketman was better than Similo on any level (other than comedy), I'd say they'd been smoking the drapes.
And Similo had its funny moments. Of course, those were in the posts in their jumbo thread during the festival, but ...:)
As an in-j0oke, this flick was pretty funny. I thought the technical cheesiness was a nice touch. Yet, outside of those who've seen SIMILO is it effective and funny ?
I don't know. In my opinion, it is too specific to parodying SIMILO to reach beyond those laughs. I could be wrong, so I guess if you enter it into a few fests you'll find out.
Really interesting thought. If you check out some of the earlier postings (even some not posted by my relatives) you'll see suggestions that people who hadn't seen Similo still enjoyed it. And it was something I consciously put my mind to when writing it - "Can it stand on its own?" "Let's make a story that doesn't need to be just an 'in' joke." "Is there any chance of getting Joy into a really great, low-cut red dress ..."
And I have no plans to enter Bucketman into any other festivals - why go for second best after dvxuser? Nope, Bucketman was great fun, all of those involved were awesome, but that was then. Time to move on to other, more serious projects. Like Contraband II.
Good luck with your flick, and I dig your sense of humour (guess those nine years of schoolin' weren't wasted )
I just knew I was going to regret that. And did I mention that eight of the nine years were spent in the same class?
Don't keep all that bucket love to youself.
And that's just really, really wrong.
Thanks very much to all of you for taking the time to comment.

I guess I'm still not sure what to think of in terms of the festival voting goes, with this one. Yes, it made me laugh more than a few times. But, are you looking for input on the other aspects of the short, like cinematography, acting, etc.? Again, as a skit on SNL or such - this is dead on! And I agree that it would be funny to people who never saw Similo, as well. But I think that much of the reaction on this thread comes from those who saw Similo, and appreciate the humor even more.
We're laughing at things like the green screen'd car and you're saying that it wasn't. Was it green screen'd? I mean, your replies are funny - but I like finding out what people actually experienced making their shorts - why they did one thing vs. the other.
I liked the VO, but is there an effect on it? Because I had to rewatch so many segments trying to figure out what she said. That was problematic for me.
The actress was OK, and I can't imagine sitting next to a Bucket, but she just appeared to be going through the motions of each segment. If it had started with a strong mood such as Similo, the reveal of the Bucketman would have struck me even more.
As the script goes, there were good lines throughout, the red dress line :-) , etc. Maybe it just got to be too long of a joke for me.

Funny stuff, loved the VO!
Thanks Conrad. And you were great in Sonicman.
Ever thought of wearing a bucket for your next role?
You have insulted me, and now you must die!
Yes, of course. All good things in time ...

You raise some very interesting points. The voting does not provide for a "best overall" category. The best overall is determined by the sum of all the various categories. So what happens when a film delivers and entertains, but is lacking (whether by design or otherwise) in any number of categories? Well, I suppose it doesn't win.
And I am completely OK with that. I am in this for the experience and the entry.
My approach to all of this is to learn by doing. This is my third festival entry. My first without my trusty DP who got me into these things in the first place. My first with a new camera, and pretty much doing everything myself - with not insignificant help from friends, of course. But the stuff I did personally was the concept, writing, production, direction, lighting, camera op, music selection and editing. Vertical learning curve.
But, for example, I simply don't have the horsepower (talent?) that a Jack Daniel Stanley, or Justin Snodgrass or an Aaron Marshall (that young punk!) or many of the other filmmakers here have. So, as in any production, I tailor my project to fit my resources. I want to deliver something that people really enjoy - I'm doing it for myself but also for the audience. So I know I can write a little and know my limitations on shooting and FX and editing and (GASP!) sound - so I try to deliver something with that in mind.
As for the green screen? Seriously? Of course it was greenscreened. You can see the freaking glow on Kristine's medium shots. And Land Rover makes a good product, but there is no way you can drive one across Hong Kong harbour. What did I learn? A thousand things, most of which involve the lighting. I needed to backlight Kristine more. I needed to adjust for the tint of the rear windows against the greenscreen. I needed some matte spray on the bucket to cut the reflection. It's all there - the flaws and all. But I also knew I couldn't deliver a "perfect" greenscreen shot, so I intentionally played up many of the shortcomings in post.
But what I really think is personally great is that the majority of the comments on this thread haven't gone into all that. People seem to have enjoyed Bucketman, laughed a little or a lot and either (kindly) overlooked the flaws or couldn't see them through their tears. And I'm fine with that on any level.
As for the sound (specifically, the VO), let me say that we did the best we could in the circumstances. But even more impressive, indicative of the goodwill of the people on these boards one incredible person has stepped up and volunteered to help fix the sound. He's volunteering his own precious time and skills to make this a little better as a final product. Mind-blowingly awesome.
As for the actress (and I assume you mean Kristine rather than Joy) she did everything I asked her to. She delivered exactly the tone and expression that I wanted. "Going through the motions" for some of the scenes was exactly what I wanted. Her character had a lot going on in the backstory and for what it was, she gave me everything I wanted and I wouldn't change her performance a nit.
As for the length, it appears that you haven't changed your mind from your first posting on this thread. I'd love it if you said that you thought Bucketman was perfect (or better yet, you wanted more) but I also appreciate that as in any project, some of the audience may find it too long.
So thanks very much for your comments and let this excruciatingly long reply be a lesson to anyone else posting on this thread wanting sincere commentary.
(But truly, thanks for taking the interest and time to comment)

Awesome! We will look forward to a cut with a cleaner VO. That's the beauty of this site, man. As for the length, sometimes "less is more", so see, I DO WANT TO SEE MORE! :-) I would have taken the entire time allowed for this as well, but if you're playing with other cuts, give the MrP cut a try, and see what a little less might produce when you work with the new VO? That would be a great experiment. There's some old quote that Johnny Carson and some other old-timers used to say about a joke - referring to it three times or something, but I don't remember it. (probably because I'm getting too old as well)
And skills? Parody is a tough thing to pull off - and as witnessed by the responses - you did that. That is definitely a skill! Technical skills, we are all learning. My greenscreen comment was more along the lines of if you were trying to make it look that way on purpose, as in to further the parody. No doubt you'll be greenscreening to the likes of everyone after having done it now!

Wonderfully funny imagery. Some nice turns of phrase. A good time with a good spirit. And it inhereted its weakeness (in story) from its source material, so I can't call you out on that! ;)

I think this may be my favourite comment - good time with a good spirit. Thanks for that.
Given my obvious goal here, was there something specific about the story (in Bucketman, not Similo) that struck you as lacking? To help me for next time?
All suggestions gratefully entertained.

Thanks very much Charli.
I'm wondering how you're going to explain the spatula/hand mixer scene to your son, though. One of those times I'd love to be a fly on the wall.

This film was far and away one of my favorites, even though I hadn't seen the film being parodied! I think it speaks to people who have seen any movie that is utterly pretentious. Writing, acting, all of it works for me. Excellent job!

Hey Mom, please stop posting. OK?
But seriously, thank you for your comment. And I didn't find Similo pretentious at all - just really good. Now, maybe some of the comments on the Similo thread were pretentious, but ...

Ever notice how when a dog has that lampshade on it hurts your ears when he barks?
I used to be the master at making sh*t sandwiches, but I've stopped serving them because everybody that I respect already knows what they taste like. I'm sure the DVXuser community will continue to grow and produce better stories and continuously improve production...
This flick is about fun and it brought it.
Thanks again, Matt.
By the way, my buddy is proudly wearing his lampshade. He isn't barking. I'm thinking of having it permanantly attached.
How about an HD100 entry from you for Horror Fest next time around? You got the equipment and all ...

Thought it was great you using the DVX as a weapon to kill Bucketman. The main actress was attractive and the voiceover was sexy (too bad it did not belong to the actress also). I did find the VO to be a bit distracting, as mentioned by Jack, Edgen and others. Too much fiddling with in post. Fun piece though.

(In Sally Field voice): "He GET'S it! He really GETS it!"
Thanks, man!

Yes, she was. Is. I would have loved to use her voice for the VO but ... well ... have you ever heard the death moan of a Bactrian camel?
Well Kristine's voice sounds absolutely nothing like that. Her voice is actually really pretty. But I try to annoy as many people as possible when making these things so given the small on-screen cast, I got my VO artiste involved.

And I am absolutely delighted to advise that, thanks to one of our esteemed members, I have a totally new, crisp, clean VO track that sounds perfectly b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l. No more P's popping. No more S's hissing. It's a freaking work of art. And if Bucketman scores high enough to be on the DVD, then you'll all get to hear it! You'll just have to buy the DVD.
Thanks for your comments, Cryo!

Er ... you mean fighting or cooking?
And, by the way. I know the Jack-in-the-Box guy - or so I'm told. Whenever the subject of filmmaking comes up, people keep telling me that I know Jack.
Cool, huh?
