View Full Version : High Def 1080P viewfinder?
Found this on engadget, they made a 1080P display thats only .7" wide. Its for projection systems but could probably be adapted for direct viewing...

To take it to the next level, how about Engadget's 1080p micro-display technology integrated into video eyeglasses like Myvu.
Link: http://www.myvu.com/details.html
For jib operators using RED, or RED + Iconix, an Engadget/Myvu setup may enable high-resolution focusing abilily via remote cabled or wireless focus assist. Since Myvu claims, and reviewers confirm, that walking with the Myvu glasses on is possible, perhaps an Engadget/Myvu setup could also be used by camera stabilization unit users for some applications.
The current Myvu PDF states a 4/3 aspect ratio and resolution of only 320x240. Imagine a high definition Engadget/Myvu model with a 16x9 aspect ratio (or variable aspect ratios), and 1080p resolution.
The Myvu glasses sure resemble the Oakley Thump MP3 sunglasses. Maybe a new Engadget/Video Thump product would be the ticket...

I like the glasses idea for stedicam/ jibs.. but in those 2 circumstances i really dont know if you need the resolution.. its more just a framing thing.
Would be cool for a focus puller though to have hi resolution glasses and a remote follow focus so he could just kinda sit in a corner and hit his points :)

In all the ENG-style shooting scenarios that RED enables, with the appropriate accessories of course, the shooter is racking his/her own focus, especially in 1080p, 1080i, or 720p with an HD ENG lens. There's a long list of ENG-style applications for RED. Having 35mm depth of field from the S35-sized CMOS sensor, the ability to see focus to rack when shooting ENG-style will be critical. The yet-unveiled RED focus assist will undoubtedly be good, but having an HD-capable viewfinder or HD-capable glasses would be very useful.
