Why is a Panasonic DVX better than say.. a a comperable Canon (maybe a GL2 or similar)? Why are people so loyal to the DVX?

Im looking for empirical advice,.. can you guys tell me why a DVX is the best choice? I am at a decision point in the purchase for my small business.

Can you help? Thanks!

To get a similar Canon, you'd have to go with the XL2 and that's just plain wacky.

Nope.

What does Gamma settings give you? I understand the Leica (lens?) and the 24p part..

The GL2 is NOT a comparable camera.

The XL2 is.

Do a search on this site. There are lots of detailed comparisons, especially in the "articles" section.

As of right now, you're asking well-covered questions. The answers are already here.

Nothing wrong with the other cameras.

The DVX just has fewer hoops to jump through to get the images you want.

Why do you (and how does it effect the picture) want to control the gamma settings? What do they do?

Please forgive my ignorant questions.. Im learning.

They try to replicate the look of film. The DVX really does a good job at that.

First of all, gamma ray settings are very important to have properly calibrated. See http://www.gamma-ray.com/. (You don't want your shirt buttoned too high up.)

O.K., seriously, here's a random article from Google, first page with "gamma setting DVX": http://www.digitalcinemasociety.org/TechTips.php?item=DVX-100+Gamma+Settings

Gamma is good!

I love that little camera - i thinks it's cool as hell. I wish it had 24p, I'd use it for b-roll with the DVX. Hell, I'd just keep it in my backpack at all times and never leave home without it.
