I actually do have on of their DVD's and it is really cool. I got it for about 10 bucks at some store a year ago. That was nothing comapred to some of the other things on the DVD. If you want the DVD I would suggest getting it.

This thing is really freakin old.
If you like this check out a Chris Cunningham video for Aphex Twin. It's a monkey with like 10 arms playing an insane drumkit. It's much more stylistic.

Its all expression driven. Its well executed, but its not as complex as it looks.

Correct. The music is actually driving the animation. There is nothing to sync by the animators.
They have a part two DVD available with fancier robots (the starship groove link).
The really cool thing was at Siggraph where they had the animation files rendering on a high-end ATI card in real-time.

I think that most filmmakers are both visual and audio artists. It only makes sense that we would be attracted to this sort of creativity. I have a lot of respect for both the technology and the creativity that went into these projects. I'm most impressed by the fact that the "camera" isn't static and is moved at the appropriate times to draw the viewers attention into specific visuals/sound.

Reminds me of something you'd see on Sesame Street. Like the animation of the pinball rolling around the maze. Of course, this is much more elaborate, but it still has that same feel.

That was always my favorite part of Sesame Street...the pinball deal.

hmmm i never saw that on Sesame Street but I was on Sesame Street when I was a kid. I was bummed that Oscars garbage cans were all fake and were cut in half for the guy to hide behind. The illusion was history after that. What the hell was my pops thinking.
