I'm shooting a short in a few weeks to submit to someone and am still deciding if it is worth shooting with an HVX so any comments would help. Ok, so the deal is, the short is going to be five minutes long but it must be submitted as a .mov less than 200mbs. How much compression would I have to do to get it down that small from 720p footage? Is it worth shooting HD with the HVX instead of SD with a DVX because my submission has to be compressed anyway? Thanks for the help.

I just shot 03:02:14 :) ran through compressor as h.264>current frames>16:9 pixel @ 500x281. Size was only 6.8mb. I am sure you can achieve. P.S. I shot 720p/24pn @ 48fps. It was for a real estate video client.
Post Script, The master out of Final Cut was 1.2gb :)

If you think the short might have a life beyond the current deliverable, why not aquire your images in the best format possible? You might want an HD version, and an HD movie even when compressed with H.264 (at high data rates than your target) can look gorgeous playing back on a good LCD...
