windows support

I know I may be in the minority here, but are there any plans to accomodate the Windows (XP - Vista, whatever) workflow with the Red camera? (ie partners, etc...)

I know I may be in the minority hereare you sure of that? perhaps the opposite, no? i know that you maybe are saying what you're posting because Graeme has the best plugins available to Mac plataform.. but as he has been confirming RED will be at PC side too. (we are hoping at the same time than FCP..)

I actually have no idea what most people use here, I just seem to read a lot of FCP (macintosh) stuff. Either way it's good to hear RED is being developed to accomodate both platforms. Awesome stuff.

I'd say a better example is the HVX-200. Still no widespread availability of a DV50 or DV100 codec on Windows. This one really bugs me (so I gripe about it whenever possible).

It'd be silly for them not to support windoze it's still the biggest user platform. With the Mac being a PC now, why would you? For video editing at least.

I use the JVC for work regulary and have to use Lumiere Pro HD to capture... which is a crap piece of software.

P2 workflow would be a better way of doing it I agree.

I would say all the 1/3" HD cams have come out (and many still have) very incomplete support in NLE etc.

yeah I know for a fact Red was working with Apple way back when.

I wouldn't say LumiereHD is crap. What I would say is that it's limited to working as it does because it has to interface with FCP, which really doesn't have much in the way of any API's to allow 3rd parties to come in and add features that the main app is missing. FCP is nice when you're doing something it supports, with a supported workflow, but once you get outside that FCP comfort zone, it's a rather unfriendly beast....

With the JVC at least, it doesn't allow you much camera deck control for logging. If there is a glitch on the footage it cause the software to 'unexpectedly' quit as soons as it finds it when you are 'demultiplexing'... you set a format for the camera to convert to for final cut pro, and then have to reset if you get that far... On the whole I stand by what I said. Lumiere is a dodgy stop gap solution that is filling a hole . Can't wait for native support.
