Hi all, just installed the Edius demo from the NAB 2006 handout DVD and had a question...
I'm trying to experiment with capturing "live" via firewire from my HVX in HD (both 720 and 1080) to Edius, but don't see any reference to HOW to do this in the help file... any help would be appreciated! Any step by step tips would be wonderful!
Thanks,
Jim Arthurs

Yeah, it's still got me bamboozled. I put another half hour into it, seached the help for capture, etc...
BTW, I go through life "pre-embarassed" for situations like this... :)

Is it Broadcast? Or just EDIUS Pro 3?
You have to have Broadcast. When you start a new project, does it give you options for Canopus HD formats, or Canopus SD 60i etc?
If you have Broadcast then it's very simple.
Camera settings: Other Functions - 1394 Control = Ext
Connect the camera to the PC via Firewire (see instructions on page 76)
On the LCD you should see 1394 and below for example HD 1080i.
Push the capture button in EDIUS Broadcast and that's it.

Thanks all... the splash screen says Edius Pro 3, but it does have all the HD codecs, and I was able to see 1080 60i source coming from the HVX... by following the steps from jib...
I will have to experiment more, but this is a start!

The Edius Trial is a mix of edius3 pro AND broadcast, so you should be able to live capture.
Ive never done it, but i know that this guy from swiss (he uses a ntsc hvx) said that he captured wit edius(guess with the trial first)
try to p.m. him if it doesnt work, his username is "Pascal_parvax"
Good luck and keep posting results!

Hey Barry or any other Guru,
Has anyone made or any news of Panasonic or anyone else making a RGB component HD analog input to 100MB Iframe type of compression box?
I know that Edirol showed at NAB HD-HDV type rackmount that converted RGB component HD to HDV.
This would allow users without the HVX200 to get that DVCproHD format to tape with their favorite cam.
This ability is really hot.
Also is the HVX able to convert a line source to DVCproHD firewire?

I never tried that (before reading your post) . . . works really, really well.
(shot 1080 to a G-Raid attached to my workstation, wow).
Thanks for that!

You need the dongle. Without dongle, no DVCPro, only HDV, no matter what version you have. Once you figure it out, it is really easy to capture. Once hooked up correctly, you get a live picture in Edius, then you just press "Shift-P", and the recording starts. By the way, the captured file plays directly in the Media Player, just with the wrong aspect. I then use ProCoder to encode to WMVHD. Never edited in Edius so far. :)

Yep, got the dongle.
Bought ver. 3 when the deal was announced during NAB.
Looking forward to the release of V-4.
I'm just figuring out how to color correct with it . . . not intuitive but easy once you (begin) to figure it out.
Again, thanks for the tip.

As fare as i see, there is not much to find out about cc in version 3!
I am really looking forward to version 4, i cant do some serious cc with edius so far, need curves and levels at least!
good luck dregenthal!

You have curves - though it's YUV, unless you mean spline-based changes...
