A simple remote servo setup with brushless motors and R/C band transmitter to do focus pulling while flying the RED camera on a steadicam/crane/Dolly and not having to worry about jiggling the unit when doing it by hand.

That's nothing new. Remote focus units can already be attached to almost any camera setup.

Yeah, but if RED will have their own lenses, they could make their own remote focus unit. No product is perfect, the remote units available can always be improved upon.

Who said the idea had to be new ? Doesn't it just have to be rockin' ?

I agree with John. Besides, any focus solution that will help the task it would be the best idea with more adherents IMHO. There is other hypothesis equally good or better yet like the Wireless Auto-focus System that I already supported.

..Just make sure that the RED lenses will have gear pitches that will work with exsisting FF gears!

I think the biggest issue with current remote focus pullers is the cost. For example - Bartech solution: $4000 for two motors, $1800 for a focus control, $1800 for a iris control... thats $7600. Preston: $2,950 for the controller,$3450 for the motor driver, $4800 for two motors ... thats $11200. With todays technology this kind of price is ridiculous and it won't last. Not everyone has a feature film budget, thats why RED and other companies that think like RED are going to bury the "competition." Mark my words, a number of companies are going to be putting some serious thought into the business strategy next year.
