This internal camera system and outboard jog wheel would allow a DP to preset any variables on the camera for a particular shot and then use an electronic wheel (something like a follow focus) to shuttle between the settings like pulling focus.

Imagine being able to preset zoom positions, ramping frame rates, focus, shutter angles, even gain or different camera settings or "looks." A DP could set up 2,3,4 ,etc. presets keyframe markers with the Red camera's "Vario" system and then have the ability to shift through them in real time as a shot is going down. the user control would be like using a gear driven tripod head or follow focus wheel with the ability to place markers on the wheel. Think tactile and organic/analog control.

This could really create some mind blowing shots that would allow a single operator or an assistant to do everything from realtime speed ramping to iris, WB,shutter angles and other camera settings, individually or at various times during a shot.

Red would also be able to show a graphical interface in a viewfinder or monitor that assists the operator in quickly adjust the keyframes and control the velocity curves or time delays for the differing settings, allowing the DP to offset control timing of keyframed elements.

Think of it like a temporal motion control rig for the entire camera with a realtime shuttle wheel for the operator to use in realtime and adjust every parameter of the camera if he wishes.

The implications of this would be fantastic for sports, action or dramatic productions.
