have a software package that allows you to create looks similar to a color correction system that is far more intricate than simply a basic camera set-up. Allow secondary color correction and advanced gamma control. This could be similar to that new Kodak software that allows a DP to create a look and then deliver it to the colorist, only the software would allow the DP to create a look and then send it to the camera.

horrible, that would mean you are making color decisions before post, potentially in the field when you are not safe and can't control the light in the environment very well.
it's great to be able to _preview_ a look on set, but unless I misunderstand you, the idea of giving the camera a LUT to preprocess raw data with is a very, very scary bad idea.

This is actually done all the time with HD. The DIT (digital imaging technician) does this exact thing on many shoots. Sometimes as the DP, you hand the footage off and never see it again. This allows the DP to stamp the look he actually wants onto the footage. Most HD shoots take a somewhat similar approach, if they're high end enough.
I agree that sometimes - maybe even USUALLY - this is better left to post, but sometimes you want to say THIS is what this is supposed to look like.
If you don't have the on-set monitoring, then you may not want to do this, but many shoots do.

If you know what you want, it's always best to get it in camera.
