From the looks of the casing I would say a programmable followfocus mechanism with a built in lazer distance measurer for anamorphic lenses if that would be a problem like on 35mm cameras.

YES !!!

and it has to come out of the Red "HAL" eye!! major cool

can you imagine measuring distance with the laser with the Red Rifle set-up--it'll sure put cut down on some actor egos!!!!
