Question for you tech heads:

I'm looking into offload options for the HVX. I know you can offload directly to a firewire drive....and that it has to be firewire 400. BUT, can you use a Firewire 400 (4pin) to Firewire 800 (9pin) cable directly into an 800 drive?

In other words, can you fool the bus into thinking you have a 400 drive by simply using the cable? Any body try this at home? I already have a little G-Tech mini drive with only 800 ports and would love to use it.

Thanks,
Gil

I believe you can. I've done many transfers from my powerbook in hard drive mode to a G5 with a 400/800 cable without any hangups. It won't work any faster, but it should work.
