Hello, I've decided to buy a Firewire external hard drive to use in the field with the HVX200 when I shoot my 20min short.

- I'm thinking an 80GB drive might be enough, since I can come back to my PC at midday and empty it. Yes? - No? ( I'm on a budget, the HVX200 belongs to a crew member)
- Can you recommend a good one? The link below are ones I was looking at.

The best?

Not iOmega in my view.

One company that makes great enclosures is:

wiebetech.com.

More expensive, but I think they're the best.

Loving my 100gb bus-powered Weibe drive. Good for transfers as well as editing in the field.

Does the drive get power from the camera when tranferring or does it have it's batteries, etc. ?

Must be powered from the mac USB bus.

The HVX can't supply bus power on USB or firewire, this is a common misconception.

You need a battery powered drive, either USB OTG or firewire.

I prefer firewire as the transfer can be verified by the camera but there is limited choice of firewire enclosures with battery power.

Very difficult to find a self powered firewire drive that is portable.

And with good battery life.
