Hi, My HVX and FS-100 are on their way, but i'm a little confused about 60p recording.

Does the HVX record audio when in 60p mode?
I keep seeing it doesn't record audio when over/undercranked, is there a specific over/undercranking mode?

Hey Camvega,

i did reaylly few in hd until now(cause we cant really edit it well until now in pal countries), but i think you just have to see in which modus you shoot the 60p:

If you wanna have the effort of 60p slow motion, then you will shoot in 720pn 60f (which is for maximum overcrank in ntsc country) , that means that the HVX WOUNT record any Audio at all!!

So i think you have to know that, you will find this in the manual as well if you download it!

So if i'm understanding this right...
You can shoot in 720/60p and get audio fine
and you can shoot in 720/30p over crancked to 60 with no audio
and those are 2 seperate recording modes?

What would be the advantage of the overcranking mode?

Correct.

What would be the advantage of the overcranking mode?
Film-style frame-accurate slow motion.

So am I going to notice a difference between overcranking to 60p on a 30p record as opposed to recording in 60p and slowing the footage to 50% in post on a 30p timeline?

Yes, there'll be a huge difference. Slowing down footage in post is over. The quality of the slow-mo will be quite superior if you shoot the footage that way in the first place.

I'm still not getting this

60p is 60p, isn't it?
The frame rate is still there, and that's what makes for the good slow motion, playing a 60p clip at half speed would be 30p.

You'll have to be a lot more detailed as to the "why" if my techie brain is to understand it. :P

Well, if you're talking about direct frame-to-frame, then yes. I thought you meant shooting 30p and slowing it down 50% to simulate what 60p acquisition would look like.
