One of my 200's is giving me an error message "Auto off S reel lock" when I put a tape in. Any ideas what might be causing this?
I've got this currently on the DVX100.
I think it's the supply reel.
It happens to me when re-winding or forwarding and chews the tape.
It's a back to panasonic job.

I have had the same error message occur with my HVX. The second time it happened I called Panasonic. They said if it continued the camera would need to go to Panasonic for adjustment. So far so good. I shoot in tape mode again tomorrow. Will definitely be trying to hold my mouth right then.

Hwat brand of trapes are you using? I've been using DVCAM Master tapes. I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

I am using Sony DVM60PRL. Panasonic did not mention any concern about the stock. After ROne's info I think it's just a Panasonic adjustment.
Still waiting for my DVX to come back from panasonic.
For the record I'm using the panasonic master tapes.

I have encountered the same issue on two of our HVXs here, one of them yesterday. After giving this error, I re-booted and reinserted tape, then heard a crunch as the deck in the camera ate the tape.
Tried re-booting camera and re-inserting a fresh tape and then it seemed to be fine. Go figure. It seems as if the tape deck in the HVX may not be as robust as the one in the DVX. I have never had a tape eaten in hundreds of hours of DVX shooting with several different DVXs.
Best,
Dan
OKay, mine is back from the panasonic service agent; guess what they couldn't find a fault even after 2 days of testing.
Why is it that I sent a picture of the error, specific instruction of how to induce the fault within 5 mins and two chewed tapes and nothing happened?
Oh, and they replaced the vtr side of things ... so it's got a new back end.
Not sure what the story is here at all, and I have yet to test it (DVX100).

Yeah I have gotten this error twice now on the HVX at work, and once on my own HVX. It twisted the Tape. I use the sony tapes also. I know that my friend has used the Sony tapes in his DVX since he has had ti and now it has over 100 hours on it with no problems. I'm alittle worried about this. What do you think the right thing to do is? I gotta figure it out for the work camera. I'm wondering if switching to Panny tapes will fix this? The work cam only has like 6 hours on the heads.
Thanks,
John

The tape drive in the HVX is the same as the one in the DVX. Tape Drive errors sometimes come from a lack of tape tension in the tape housing. Eject the tape and tighten the tape reel by releasing the hub locks. And try again.
Hope that helps,
Jan
