First of all, I can not tell you how much I appreciate and learn from those on this board. Aside from my experiences with the DVX, it is one of my main reasons for purchasing the HVX - not only the quality of product, but also the support and true passion of those who use the products that are represented here.

That said, coming at this from mostly a story-based technique, I am learning quite quickly, this must change with the HVX. Therefore, I am already running into some issues. Shooting at 720 24p, I've noticed my menu read in blue that the recording format is 480i . Now I know I cannot be recording in standard def due to the 8 minute limit on 2 4 gig p2 cards, but why can I not change that option? Or can I? If so, should I?

The other question is, I'm quite used to FCP and currently use 4.5. Understanding I need to upgrade, and understanding there are some current issues between Apple and Panasonic, would anyone recommend going to Avid?

Finally, workflow? Though I am not to the editing stage yet, I've just been moving the P2 data into folders on a g4 laptop to import later. I've then been reinserting the p2 card into the HVX and initializing it again to erase all info. Is this standard? or should I be doing it another way?

Thanks so much. I really do appreciate your input.

If you're already using Final Cut Pro, I'd suggest sticking to it. Apple is now offering an upgrade from Final Cut Pro 4.x or 4.5 HD to Final Cut Studio 5.1 Universal for only $199! This is an excellent deal, giving you the whole suite. Check this out on their web site: http://www.apple.com/universal/crossgrade/ It's a really good deal. P2 ingest into Final Cut Pro works fine with Final Cut Pro 5.0.4 and 5.1, except that it does not read in all of the metadata, but as far as bringing in the video and file names and basic information it works fine. I'm sure Apple will be improving P2 ingest in the future. There are many reasons to stick with Final Cut (I've used both Avid and FInal Cut so I could go on and on) but to stick to the matter at hand, P2 ingest works fine with the latest versions of Final Cut Pro, I can assure you based on my experiences with it. Final Cut Pro provides an excellent platform for editing DVCPRO HD footage.

The blue text in the menu means that option is not available.

Right -- it's blue because it's irrelevant. When you chose 720p mode, that means high def and only high def, so the 480 recording mode has no bearing.
