Here is my (official) second short titled "The Note." I made it for the student film competition at the UC Davis Asian American Association Film Festival this year, and I ended up winning.
Enjoy. :D

Ha, you're not the only one. A couple of people (including my dad) thought Rachelle was a dude. :crybaby:

Congrats on your win.
It was an amusing little short.
That "nerdy asian guy" was pretty lucky.

You mean Most chicks dont dig guys that sit around playing computer games?? I've been working on the wrong skills!! GOSH!! I'm a Figgin Idiot!!
Cool little story.
I liked the music you used, fun :)
But im afraid to say a few negative quailties, such as the actors. Not up to par, nor was the lighting. Im sure with a little bit of lighting, colour correction and maybe a bit of sound tweaking, you could have yourself a better piece.
Maybe edit it a little more, found myself asking why im still watching. So maybe a little more editing out the most unecessary clips out.
Kewl short! Congrats.

I agree with the previous poster on most of their comments. This short could use a little tightening in those departments. Overall, it was still pretty good. I'm glad it won you some recognition! :)

I don't think I mentioned it here, but yea, I'm well aware of the editing issues. Some of the shots linger a little in the beginning and those could use some trimming. There are also some continuity issues I noticed after watching it a couple of days after I finished editing it, but those were pretty much unavoidable since pretty much all of the shots you see in the final product are the first AND only takes I shot.
Some of the stuff you mentioned I already have on my list of "goddammit, I need to fix these" (such as sound and color correction) since I noticed them when I watched my film a couple of days after finishing the short. However, I would've addressed these issues if I had more time to mess around with it since I edited this thing in only three hours and I had to edit them in a computer lab near closing time. But, I had to delete the source files since I had nowhere to put 'em (no external hard drive on me), so I can't really fix 'em now unless I did a total re-edit of the film.
As for the lighting, it's all natural, which was something I really wanted to work with. For what it's worth, I think the natural lighting turned out okay, and I've gotten comments on the other side of the spectrum where people liked the lighting.
Oh well, can't please everyone.

I enjoyed this, I thought the music cue was right on the money. The only thing I would've done differently is the framing on the shots of the girl. She's supposed to be the object of desire, but the profile shots were a little unflattering and made her nose look large (hence the man comments). I think it just could've been framed better to de-emphasize that angle and use shots that make her look her best.

How did you do to get the rights for that song?
Did you use that song at the festival?
thanks

I didn't get the rights. Shhhhhhhhhhhh.......
As for showing it at a film festival, I asked about their policy on copyrighted music. They told me that it would've been preferable if I used original music, but if I had copyrighted music, they would let it slide. I was willing to cut out the song, and replace it with an original, but they let it through. However, I thought about submitting it to other film festivals, so I might just have to replace the music/re-edit the film anyway.
I am a naughty filmmaker. :crybaby:
In all honesty, if I get a C&D from a rep of Peter Gabriel, I would gladly do it for him since I'm a big Peter Gabriel fan, and I feel bad for going over him like that.
Very good short film, actors are excellent.

Well done! I agree with some of the other comments, lighting, actors could have been a bit better, but hey, overall it was done well. Great job.

Maybe that's what my director's trademark should be: ambiguous sexualities.
