Has anyone heard of a DVX100 in the body of a DVX100A?
Is it possible for menu options to just disappear?
Is there a firmware update?
One that can possibly be done through the firewire port?WHY THESE QUESTIONS???
I purchased a DVX100A from an authorized dealer at the end of the Panasonic rebate promotion just prior to December 31 of 2005. It has taken me until now to receive the merchandise - Book/DVD, Batteries, Tape, etc. That is really NOT the issue.
Prior to receiving the book, I had primarily used the preset scene files making only minor tweaks in the settings menus. After reviewing the book, I began experimenting with some of the settings only to find many were unavailable. In fact, feature for feature, every upgrade from the 100 to the 100A did not exist. No squeeze mode, no v-detail, no knee settings, no slow shutter, - not-a-one. Also, some of the functions like the 3 programmable user presets were in fact only 2 user presets and an index setting just like the DVX100.
As all of the external markings indicated a DVX100A, I contacted Panasonic tech support and verified that It was not operator error and that the serial number was a valid DVX100A.
After checking a number of reference manuals and questioning his peers, the tech told me he had never heard of such a thing and suggested that perhaps someone had switched out the LCD and viewfinder. But there are at least subtle if not obvious variations including body color between the two so any partial change-out would likely be noticeable, wouldn't it? The tech did not indicate that there was any user option to upgrade firmware or that there may be a prerequisite setting I am missing somewhere.
So I have driven the 60 miles to the dealer and they have offered to keep the camera for observation. I asked for a loaner, (told them I would even deal with the inconvenience of an HVX-200 if I had too), but no dice. Ain't that a kick in the smileys?:nads:
Fearing I may be without my camera for another six months, I have kept the camera in my possession. Given my luck, I have often said that if every lottery ticket was a winner, save one, I would buy the one losing ticket. Is it possible I bought the one DVX100A that is missing the upgraded features?
Any constructive replies or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Ima
