shot this last week for my crazy persian client. it's in farsi and i don't have the translation. he told me the song is about things repeating over and over again... all the outdoor stuff was shot with my 35 adapter. inside stuff is straight dvx. i shot some of the timelapse and wanted to shoot more but i needed some puffy clouds and it's the gloomy season in l.a. right now so i used some stock that i had. same with some of the traffic.
editing and effects done in FCP

EDIT: just finished client revisions last night. some parts i like better, some i don't. you be the judge...

lol..its Farsi.
Its great, the footage is great, the singer is good, I had a problem playing the video, at about a minute or two left, it says "error" and it stops playing.
I'll translate some of it for you later, lol, but of course like every other Persian singer, hes singing about girls.

I did, its still the same bro, maybe I should watch it off the site, but I thought I'd download instead. Fix that problem..I've never seen it before, anyone know why its happening?

Worked fine for me...
Excellent job. VERY proffesional. Did you also do the editing?? if so, it was amazing. What other equipment did you have with you -- Was it a full on production, or just a small crew?
Really good on the video. Not quite sure about the "dude" though ;)

Why is it for me? Every other QT file I have plays fine...hmmm, weird.

hey thanks. i shot and edited it. it was a very small production. there was a hair and make up guy but that's it. i had to set everything up and do the lighting. i even built the sets. i usually bring a couple of guys with me on projects i produce but this was supposed to be a straight d.p./edit gig so i didn't bring anyone. i got there and there was no crew so i made it work.
gear: obviously the dvx with the my35 and an indifocus, 8' jib, dolly, tripod, fig rig, a lowel dv light kit, a britek 1200w softbox, a stage type spot light, an LED ringlight, and there were some lights in house that we used for backlight on the band. they were par cans. we also had a disco ball, and a fog machine.
as far as "the dude" goes, i know what you are saying. by american standards, his performance is kinda over the top to say the least. but i have had this conversation with him and he knows it would never fit on mtv. he says it's right on point for the persian culture/market. he is getting his videos played on some persian satellite network so that's pretty cool.

Right on. Impressive for doing it on your own. I went back and watched it again, and REALLY loved the way it was cut.
If you don't mind, I might use this as a bit of a reference, or should I say practice, to try and create something similar, as far as the editing goes.

What do you mean his performance is over the top? you mean with the belly dancers and all?

no, i mean the way he peforms. his gestures, etc. sometimes i think he wants to be a cowboy or something. you should see the stuff that didn't make it into the video... in american culture, this kind of acting would be perceived as arrogant and cheesy i think. that is, unless you're a rapper. then it's anything goes. but for this kind of music, i don't know...

oh, lol, yeah its that way in the Persian pop culture, you watch other young Persian singers its just like this guy. Three things, one: they awlays sing about love/girls, two: they always wear button up shirts and sunglasses, three: they've always got girls in their videos.

I recognized some 'artbeats' footage in there.. put to good use! Nice job on the coloring and lighting. I have a my35 too... it's great until you stop down below f2.5, then its grain city. The videos looks brilliant, nice job!

yeah, that's what he said. i'm cool with that. his music is well written and well produced so i gotta figure he knows what he's doing...

yeah the artbeat stuff is great when you need it. i wish i could have shot it all myself but who knows when we'll get another partly cloudy day here in l.a. plus i could never pull off explosions like that.....

i thought it was great too. pacing got monotonous after a while though. and it seems that your letterbox matte was a little early in the processing path. some of the blur effects were pushing in the letterbox. there were some very nice images in there.

actually the letterbox came last. those effects do give the illusion of invading that space but they don't really.....
