Would anyone like to submit a product name suggestion for the new camera?

Cool camera names:

1) SI-HD Vision Cinema System

2) Dreamaker HD

3) Clear-Vision

4) M.E.G.A (mean engineering grabs attention)

:)

What about something that integrates the kinda cool silicon electron symbol (also S.i. by coincidence) with a film reel? I love your company name and the model number works fine if you market it the way Arri and the others do.

The logo looks great! But the commentary has been that we need a catchier name for the product...

I go with Chameleon. Kinda cool.

Suggestions:

Virtual Retina
HD-Ray (a play on X-Ray)
Latitude (somehow, its sounds nice on all its own)

Ari Presler

It should be one word name.

We use EVE as our internal code name. It goes well with other cameras in its genre like Genesis and Origin.

Something along the lines of Chameleon: Mimisis (Greek for imitation, -here imitation of real-life- but dont know if i have the spelling right)

Eve. Rock-on.

Or any pleasing female name for that matter. :P

So what's the apple to your Eve... could it be something RED? And who or what is Adam?

e

Omada
05-19-2006, 07:59 AM
Chameleon is nice but it's a four-syllable word, which is only ok if it rolls off the tongue easily. Eve is good but it doesn't sound like a camera.... although neither does Origen, Genesis or Red. Cinealta and Varicam have great, memorable names and they sound like cameras. You guys need something relating to color or exposure latitude because that's the distinctive of a camera like this.

I'll suggest something over the "Digital Negative" workflow concept.

SINC

Roxics, nice logo/font. Sinema...Cinema...mmm.
Dan and Omada, I like the idea of focusing on the value points to help conjure up the name. So far the main ideas have been

D-Cinema
color rendition or flexibility
exposure latitude
Digital Negative
Innovative Workflow
SI and Silicon Imaging

I know we want to serve the indies. But I dont want to alienate the film/hollywood establishment.

Sian = Full Color Spectrum - Red ;-)
Cyan color made by mixing equal amounts of green and blue. Often referred to as "Electric Blue". Pigement which absorbs Red Light.

Litzwire

I like the Cye-cam name, but you could even simplify it more in terms of linking it to your company and call it simply, SICam (pronounced sigh-cam). Easy to say, matches your company initials, isn't too cute, has a serious tone to it.... There's nothing wrong with simply adding "cam" to SI, as if that would be copying off of Varicam - this is a basically understood sufix for a number of good camera makers: Arricam, MovieCam, Varicam....SICam. ;)

Let's put it in a sentence, shall we?

"We're shooting the spot on location with a SICam."
"Really? Cool."

as opposed to

"We're shooting the spot with the EVE."
"The Eve of what? Who's Eve? Is she the talent?"

Ari Presler
05-20-2006, 07:42 PM
Good justification for SI-Cam.

By the way, Eve is my daughter's name :-) !

We have been using it as our project codename. We now have the Eve (full system), Mini-Eve (POV Camera)and Micro-Eve (separated smaller camera block and Gige modules).

What happens when we introduce next generation models. Are we going to call it SICam2 and SICam3 etc?

Should we consider adding resolution details to differentiate. SICam-2K, SICam-14K. But then we start sounding like part #s again instead of a branding and visualization name?

hemophilia
05-21-2006, 01:01 AM
SICam-14K.... can we get a time-frame on that? :D

Ari Presler

I like SiCam as a basic name .... and I like Eve as a model. It could be a, SiCam Eve by Si. Future models could be names also like a SiCAm Oliver, or SiCam Adam, SiCam Aurthur etc.

i.e., So when talking, people would say, I'm shooting on a SiCam Eve most of the time and for the special fx sequences we're shooting on an Oliver.

We are still looking for some non-denominational suggestions....

SiRes or SiRis (pronounced like the name Cyrus). Obviously the first uses "resolution" as a foundation and the next one uses "iris" as a foundation. Plus Cyrus is like a cool name or something.

Anyway, if it were my camera, I'd probably name it "The Black Box Of Death", but hey...

Oh, I didnt know it was used in MI-II. Watched it a long time ago... (It was a horrible movie, so let me take that name back!)

Ok then, How about "Photonic",
or "Digital Photon"

Or simply "Radiance"

Ari Presler

We need to settle on its branded model and product family names for our series of cinema cameras. It needs to encompass a full range of products from HD, 2K, 4K, remote heads, micros, minis, 3Ds, rig packages, etc.

Silicon HDVR Cameras
Silicon Cinema Cameras

Here are the models for Silicon-One or First-Silicon!

Silicon HDVR - could be the full camera with recorder
Silicon Mini-HD- Could be the camera head only
Silicon Micro-HD - The micro head for real tight spaces :-)

Then for next generation models
Silicon2K - A 2K Camera Family (2KDVR, HD, Mini, Micros)
Silicon4K - a 4K Camera (4KDVR, HD, Mini, Micros)

You would say

"I am shooting this feature with Silicon!" (ie. not film).
I am "Filming with Silicon",
"Shoot it with Silicon"
"Silicon is more flexible than Film".
"I want a Silicon HDVR"
"When are you going to build that Silicon4K".

We can then have our internal code name for the products such as EVE (Just like Intel code names their processor chipsets before market release such as Yonah and Duo Core. The next model family could be code named Chameleon (especially designed for its unique Coloring and uniqur 3D viewing capabilities).

Comments?

It's really already done.

The vast majority of the Film community know it as the SI or Silicon Imaging.

You have already branded it.

No need for fancy nomenclatures.

The long form you use is perfect as well.

SI-1920HDVR

"What are you guys shooting on?"

A Silicon Imaging.

"Nice, which one."

The SI-1920HDVR.
It's my favorite one.
I've had it since they first came out.
Going for that classic SI look.

See how nicely it flows!

It just rolls off the tongue.

No need to be pretentious because you've got the goods and the point of branding a name is to differentiate one's self in the marketplace.

DONE DEAL!

Heres my suggested names:

"CineXtreme"

It sounds neat, gets the point accross, is catchy and you can make some wicked looking logos with that name!

I also think the names:

"X"
"CineX"
"CineX-2k"
"X-2" (For X-2k)
"X-2K"
"Digicine-2k"
"Digifilm-2k"
"Silicon-X"
"PlatinumX" (Platinum should be in silver, sleek letters, X should be in Forest Green)
"Platinum" (Platinum should be in silver, sleek letters)

Hope you enjoy them! Ari; feel free to use the names as you wish.
