Hey guys, this was a little video I made for a wedding video. I filmed the groom's bachelor party. Turned out pretty cool. Let me know what you think. Sorry for the compression. It looks really cool on my computer preview window.

I watched it. Like you said...Poker and pool. I think that when you know the people in the video, it's more interesting. Otherwise, it's like looking into someone else's house and seeing guys playing poker and pool. Cool Hand Luke and The Hustler set the poker and pool bar pretty high. I'm not sure what goal you were shooting for, but what you have is a video snapshot....noteworthy for the people who lived the event, but unremarkable to an outsider. No matter how many angles you take, if nothing happens, it remains a snapshot. There were some spurious flashes; I assume you added those for effect, but the intent of the effect was lost on me.

I agree with the guy above.

uh guys, if you would've read the beginning of this post, I said it was for a bachelor party video. this is what they did. I don't want u to critique on the goal, only the angles and color correcting and everything. alright whatever...peace

If you want a critique on the pool angles then I can tell you that most of your shots were a little too static. And......I really wish you'd shown the flop after you showed the guys pocket cards of Ace 10 (I think it was)....I kept waiting for you to get back to it. I thought that him showing the camera those cards was cool.

well guys, these are Christian men here. The guy showing you the cards is a pastor's son, and all of them are really active in the church. They're not gonna go see strippers. Also, they are brazilian. the whole bachelor party thing is not common for them.
I don't know, I am sort of happy with the DOF I got on this video. Maybe the compression makes it look staticy. I don't know.

I went back to look at angles and such to see if I'd missed something special. Turns out I did...the title is really quite spiffy. What must have been deliberate focus adjustment given your DOF comment above looked to me like autofocus hunting or accidental adjustment -- I didn't get the transition you intended. To make a stripperless, alcohol-free bach party interesting, think conflict and emotion. It's too late to re-stage, but I'd suggest following Marlene's cue and focusing (no pun intended) on the poker play. Ante, raise, raise, lots of expressions, lots of looks, chips pile up in the pot, show the hole cards, show the eyes, focus on one player's "tell" and another's drumming fingers...give the audience the message something's gonna happen, the stakes are high, and you give them some reason to care about what they're watching. Then show a climax...call the bluff (or not) turn the cards, rake the pot in on a deuce-six-nothing, etc. It's an old story, but at least it's a story. If you're only documenting, not staging, then at least focus on emotion. Smiles, laughs, head shakes, arguments..something! If these guys were having a great time, it doesn't show, and if there's any goal to your work, it seems to have been to document a memorable and fun time.

At a true blue bachelor party, no one baring a camera of any kind woulda made it out of his car alive.

Well...they pretty much were like that. Not very happy. They would laugh sometimes but too quick to catch the moment. Also, this is just for them to watch. He will watch it and remember the memory. It's not to submit to a film festival. I just wanted to show you guys my CC and DOF. But it's fine, this helps me with projects where I am actually shooting a poker game. Lol! Peace!
